Gilbert Peak TR
Hiked in from Henry's Fork planning to hit King's Peak. At our camp we visited with some guys that were finishing up their Utah County's High points, and told us that Gilbert was about 3.5 miles away.
It had been our original plan to hit both peaks, but while we were on our way to King's, we reckoned that Gilbert was quite a hike. We never imagined it was really that close.
We hiked past dollar lake, and followed the ridgeline. Crossing rocky meadows and a few aggravatin false summits, we arrived at the peak. We hung around for an hour waiting for the duo so we could witness their peak bag.
If you stay at Dollar Lake on the way to King's, Gilbert is a must. Its pretty steep, but well worth it. Gunsight Peak is near too, another 13er if time allows (one of our group was out of gas, so we didn't get that one)
The 4 day trip was fantastic, with visitors of the moose variety every evening. Weather was fantastic, and the bugs werent bugging.
A great trip!Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, as vital to our lives and water and good bread

It is good to hear that someone else saw some moose in the area. Was there about 4 years ago and saw 17 in 3 days on the trails up there. Awesome pictures, thanks for sharing. Oh, and yes, those bulls are massive!

If you count the ones we saw thru binos, we counted upwards of 20 head... some more than likely were re-visiting.
Saw about 10 deer, saw no elk up there, but saw a cow and a bull on the drive into the trailhead.Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, as vital to our lives and water and good bread

Nice TR. If you are interested in more routes for Gilbert Peak, I have four routes posted below:
http://www.summitpost.org/mountain/r...bert-Peak.htmlUtah is a very special and unique place. There is no where else like it on earth. Please take care of it and keep the remaining wild areas in pristine condition. The world will be a better place if you do.

Okay, I'm a bit ignorant of this. What's the significance of Gilbert? And how do I get to it from Dollar Lake? When I hiked King's last year, I just went straight up the trail from Dollar, up through Gunsight Pass and over 's. Where is Gilbert from Dollar?

Gilbert is the Summit County Highpoint. You just follow the ridge behind Dollar Lake untill you can't go any higher.
