Would you like to see a "Basement" thread started?

I will let this run for a week or so and see what the "people" want.

Please refer to this thread if you don't understand. http://uutah.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2831

Hmmm. I think that may sound like a good idea. This way, an "innocent browser" wouldn't come along and run into a flamefest. You'd have to login to get to the good stuff.

I think it would probably lead to more registrations, if it's constantly a hot spot. I haven't placed my vote yet though.

I'm used to flamefests. I'm on lots of forums and they are just natural!

I voted no. First we have this so called basement thread, then I will want a toilet thread, then I will stop frequenting the porn sites, then the Internet loses its purpose, finally no more Internet. Keep the porn and Keep the Internet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, Kid, you think you got what it takes to be a Punch King?

Pr0n made the internet what it is today, it's like taking out a root user from a unix system, that can't happen!

Basement idea is pretty cool, I voted yes, but keep the pr0n alive!

    Wooooooo Hoooooooo!

Well, as Adam once said to Eve, "let's get it on!!!"

Iceaxe, you sir are a dirty little tramp, and you wouldn't know a slot canyon from the privates of a 50 year old hooker! Just messin' bud!

I feel free, like that Seinfeld episode where Kramer joins the "adopt a highway" and makes his 4 lane freeway into a two-laner with WIIIIIIIDE lanes!

Btw......Sombeech......why aren't you wearing tights in your photo
like Nacho Libre? Was it to protect the tender eyes of us women-folk here?

Never regret anything that made you smile!

That photo was taken on the shore of Loch Lomond in Scotland. I was trying to make it look like I was wearing a kilt. My last name is McFarland, and that is where they had their castle.

HEY!!! I've reconsidered..... I don't want a basement thread..... just keep running things as you guys have been. Perhaps the first step in stamping out a flame fest is to move the thread to the current Members Only section. If that doesn't work, then lock it.

Whatever.... doesn't really matter to me. I like playing in your sandbox

You guys have done a nice job so far Keep up the good work!

    Why?
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

    Ice,

You sound like a politician led to the darkside...did they get to ya? Those dirty bastages! Of course the admin do a great job, this is a great website, and I thank them for it; however, I have to ask, "does your pu$$y hurt, or something?" Is the "ice" melting? Do tell...

Maybe you need one of these...

And here I thought all you did at work was surf the net. You've proven me wrong.

I must have you mixed up with myself.

    YMMV

i doubt it's an isolated incident, but perhaps such incidents will occur infrequently. i am just not sure locking threads is the right way to go. dealing with individuals may be more appropriate.

one interesting aspect to these webforums is that, while they are "owned" by those who establish them, they take on a life of their own as members join and post and define. it's very difficult to predict what will happen as new members join, some of whom may have much stronger opinions, emotions, and words than already have been demonstrated.

if you wanna hide the flamefests and social dysfunction of the membership, then a basement section is the way to go. it'll protect the image of the site to outsiders, but it won't do much to change the interactions of the membership and could even intensify "the problem."
i personally don't think this is exactly necessary, but if the owners would prefer to maintain the image of the site, that's their choice.

this problem did not begin with RELIGION it began with LAND MANAGEMENT, SUWA, and cross-country travel, which is a bona fide outdoor issue...the breaking point WAS religion however, whether coincidentally or not. unless you impose restrictions/moderate/etc. i don't see how you are going to "solve" any of "problems" completely. if hiding the problems is the solution, so be it, it's a heck of a lot easier. the problems are with the individuals and the emotions and thoughts that they get caught up in. this is further accentuated by the permanence of the posts and the lack of face-to-face interactions....ahh the internet...it's a brave new world.

there is one thing very clear to me, as i said before, you're not gonna please everyone. some are offended by the slightest comments, others have a higher threshold. some are offended by the mere existence of negativity or debate. others are offended by the absence of opportunity for commentary and debate, no matter how unbridled. one thing i am inclined to say is "if you don't want to read it, don't read it" ... it's kinda like life that way.

CONSISTENCY, however, IS HIGHLY IMPORTANT, to bring scott's original point back around full circle. whatever you choose, just try to be consistent in how you implement it. as has been repeated a billion times, it's a great site and keep up the good work!!
