    Current conditions

Anyone been hiking/peak bagging much in the Wasatch or nearby recently? I'd appreciate any info on current conditions in regards to approach, snow conditions, etc of anywhere you've been.

This post may help a bit: http://uutah.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2640

Or just look at the Trip Reports.

I haven't been in the mountains yet his year. But historically you need at least and iceaxe to cross snowfields when climbing the P-horn, Twin, etc, until after the 4th of July.

FWIW: Twin Peaks from Broads Fork is a favorite of mine this time of year. I also had some friends climb Timp a week ago and they said it was easy but you need an ice axe and crampons from just below Emerald Lake to the summit ridge. You can rent both at REI.

If you want a great scramble the South Ridge of Superior should be doable about now http://climb-utah.com/WM/superior.htm . This is probably the best scramble in the Wasatch.

i hiked Grandeur yesterday and Thane this morning, easy climbs, no snow. thinking about hitting Raymond saturday morning.
these are all lower millcreek peaks and all i've seen have little to no snow.

havent been in cottonwoods yet much for hiking.
I climb a bunch by the JHCOB wall in big and the snow is nearly nonexistent.

i heard the same about Timp as Shane.
nice hike beyond emerald w/ Katahoolas and axes.

    Mt. Raymond

Hiked Mt. Raymond last Saturday. Most of the trail was OK or wet but there were several good snowdrifts left from winter. The ridge from Baker Pass to the top had quite a bit of drifted (but solid) snow. Note that we went in from the Big Cottonwood side so had a "southern" exposure most of the way.

You could try this board too, though based on your name you might already visit there!

I've been doing a bit of hiking, both on the snow and off.
While I do own crampons and an ice axe, they are gathering dust in preference for,

little skis and a whippet ski pole. Why anyone would wanna hike on snow without a down is beyond me.
Much of the lower elevations are snow free, allowing some long hikes if a person is creative. The cool temps have been helping.
Wildflowers are out in the foothills.

Those are from morman trail and alexander creek, just north of Parleys canyon.

Climbed Timp last night via the Timpanooke and conditions were perfect for a nice spring snow climb. The snow is settled up rock hard and only turned a little slushy around 11:00 in the afternoon. There is still a TON of snow up there and it will be some time before you'll be able do the route without mountaineering gear. I'll post a TR later on with some pics.
