Monument Valley Mittens are Still Mittens
NOTICE: This post contains incorrect information as demonstrated below...
So on may 18, one of the spires forming the east mitten fell to dust. The east mitten is the one on the right and more distant when viewed from the main vantage point in the tribal park.
I snagged two photos from the climb on yahoo group (az).
i have to admit, i am quite sad, these mittens are burnt into my mind from being young and are a symbol to me.
______
the second and third photos are from the following links. you need to join the group to have accesss to the photos. original post was message 160.
Here's a picture taken 5/18/06 of the mitten falling:

Wow! that's amazing! Someone just happened to be there to catch the fall on film or was that some kind of computer generated image?

No way! I can't find anything about it on Google. I bet that was a site to witness.

I hear it was not the thumb that fell but a part of the butte (glove? hand? fingers?). Check out the debris field.

Imagine if nobody witnessed that. Everybody would be wondering when it happened, if there was any foul play involved...
It's amazing that somebody was there as it fell, and happened to have their camera on them.
