    Where should I go.....

I'm looking at getting in a couple backpacking trips this summer. Preferably trailhead within 2-3 hours of SLC. Ample water so I don't need to pack much. Oh, and I want it to end somewhere I can fish.
On my list would be somewhere I can catch Greyling. That's just cool, and I might harvest one to have mounted.
    Suggestions?

I consider Buckskin Gulch to be one of the best backpacking trips on the planet. But there is no fishing.....

If you want fishing you probably need to do the uinta thing. This loop hike will take you to half a dozen easy and fun lakes.

And National Geographic rated the Zion Narrows as on of the top five backpacks

I've seen a bunch of big trout in the clear holes up Deep Creek where it joins the Narrows. The NPS says ther are no fish, what a joke. Never seen anyone fish them. It would be easy if you picked one of the campsites near where Deep Creek joins

Those all look really cool, but the last two are most appealing. You're sure you've seen trout in Deep creek? I just bought a 5 piece spin rod that would 'pack nicely. I'd take it just to see if they'll bite.

    I'm sure....

They were not hard to find. You could see them in every deep pool above the confluence.

High water, in normal years its not open yet. The Virgin has to be running less then 100 CFS to get a permit. You want to hike the Narrows in hot weather because you will be wet much of the day..... Also you want Deep Creek runnning low and clear if you want to try and catch a little fishy.....

Figures. May is a tough month, with the runoff and the amount of snow still up high usually.
