Does anybody have any beta or promising beta on any slots accessible by boat on Powell besides the Sevenmile stuff or Antelope Canyon?

And for the noob's who are always asking how to get involved in canyons.... here is your big chance to get hooked up with experainced canyoneers. I know several experianced canyoneers would be happy to teach/lead/hand hold a canyon or two in exchange for a boat ride

Powell canyons rock! I've seen a few of the Lake Powell slots and would like to go back some day soon. Logistics however, are considerably more of an issue than with land based canyoneering.


Like Ice says, friends with boats are in high demand in this sport.


From my limited experience, a lot of the slot canyons in the area require a high degree of stemming comfort level and skill and some good natural anchors skills. Although I hear there are some nice hiking slots, in general, its not a place for beginners, with a bunch of the tech. canyons coming in at the R and X level. A lot of mae west, quite a few keeper pot holes, all natural anchors, and tons of downclimbing.

I hesitate to mention it given our concurrent discussionon the other group, but it was at lake Powell where I realized that a helmet and sticky shoes can definitely be considered a requirement for some canyons. When you are free soloing 20 to 30 feet above the deck (or more) for a half hour straight, the possibility of a non-fatal fall where you ricochet off the walls a little is definitely pretty significant. Knowing your feet stick to the rock and your head won't bounce if you do fall is nice comfort if anything.

Sorry about the helmet thing, it was just on my mind. I was just thinking how I'd felt pretty comfortable without one in Zion and the Swell and the Roost before that but when I got to Powell I was glad I had it. Different sort down there.

Powell has plenty of stuff for all skill levels. There are probably more slots per mile in the Lake Powell area then anywhere else on the planet. And the size of the area covered with slots is massive.

Powell has everything from hundreds of fun family slot hikes to some serious techie stuff. Its easy to find something for everyone.

Yes, and from what I hear, it is WAAAYYY overcrowded. Forget about getting a nice frameable picture of this canyon unless you're okay with having a bunch of tourists in your shot.

But hey, there are PLENTY of slots that I have seen that rival Antelope Canyon as far as beauty and overall aesthetics.
