I got mine a couple of years ago. The requirements are pretty minimal--this page spells out everything you need. Basically, you just need to take a basic firearm familiarity course from a BCI approved instructor, then supply the application fee, fingerprint cards (which most instructors will do for you as part of the course), copy of your driver license, and a photograph of yourself.

I got all my requirements taken care of in a few hours, then just had to wait for the permit to arrive in the mail a few weeks later.

Since 1998. forms, background checks, letters of character reference, approved permit course, picture, fingerprints and money. There is a lot to it.
I think every law abiding citizen should have one even if they plan to never handle a gun in their life!

I need to renew mine this year. I remember having to go through their little course, demonstrate I could shoot a semi auto and a revolver, get fingerprinted, fill out tons o' paperwork and voila!

I need to get my wife hers here soon.

We're all doing a pistol training course at Front Site down in Nevada in March. Should be fun.

So if i wanted to take the course, how would I go about finding when And where one is taught?

    You're in Orem?

I'm in Springville and plan to get my permit through Rangemasters, a firing range here in Springville.

They also rent machine guns, so if you're in a mood to drop hundreds of dollars on ammo, Rangemasters can help you burn it off at an alarming rate.

A guy came over to my place a few years back. I got about 4 of my buddies, and we all took the course that night in my apartment. About an hour and a half, and $45.

Then it was $60 to do all of the FED stuff. Pretty easy, really.

I actually got my permit before I even owned a handgun. It's just really nice to have.

I know this post is old, but if anyone is still interested in getting their CFP here you go. For twenty bucks you can't beat that.
