Guacamole Trail - SW Utah
This is a little known and relatively unmarked trail. Years ago a guy by the name of Dean from Bike Zion (now closed) began to explore the area and try to find a route in the area and to connect the slick rock patches. We called it the Pink Floyd trail because someone painted Pink Floyd along with a few other marks with spray paint. Thankfully that has not continued and it is now worn off. There is a lot of slick rock and it is similar to Gooseberry. After exploring the area we found a few little connector trails and a few motorcycle tracks that we could follow along with a survey line. Deans old trail came alive. It was called Guacamole because we ate lunch one day on a rock and had left over guacamole and so we called it Guacamole Rock. Well, the name stuck and soon it was called Guacamole Trail, along with Tortilla Loop and Scampi Camp. If you know the route it really flows. It is a great cardio ride, lasting between an hour and a half to two hours if you ride it with a good pace and don't stop to play on the numerous slick rock playgrounds. Freeriders love the area, especially the lower parts because of the technical drops and role-ins that are around every corner. I suspect it to be discovered before long and become as popular as any trail in the area. The views of Zion are incredible and the look off area looking over at Gooseberry is amazing. It is secluded and rough at this point, finding your way can be a challenge if you don't know the trail.

Photo of Guacamole Trail. Looking toward Zion National Park, West Temple in the background. Crater Hill in the picture on the left. This is a big cinder knoll that you can't miss from anywhere in the area. You can really see it from Goosberry.

Man, that looks so much like Gooseberry Mesa.
Here's some Google Earth images, along with the location marker to help us get there.
BTW Shuntavi, how long did you say the trail was?

Eight Miles
That last photo is of the parking area or trail head. The trail is about 8 miles round trip. It is sort of an out and back with a loop at the lower end. There is also a nice dirt road you can see in the photo that takes you about half way out and also gives you a nice bail out point. Riding the road is a good ride also if you can't find the trail or want to take the easy way out or back. The lower end gets real close to Zion Park, watch for the park signs and stay out of the park. The lower slick rock is split by the park.
