    Cable Canyon SRS

Sam, Shane and I drove down Friday night,
Note: When eating at Grogs, just get burgers and stuff they have to make. They have great food, but if you get something (personal sized pizza) that could just be taken, frozen, from a box and cooked, that's what you'll probably get. I think the clam chowder is just cambells from a can too.

We spent the night east of Factory Butte right next to the road. And got up in the morning ready to conquer the newest addition to Shane's website. http://www.climb-utah.com

I was a little tired still.

The hike up was hard, but not too hard. Easier than the Squeeze. Once we got into the canyon, I went up stream for a little way. There were some cool little pools and narrows, but nothing too impressive, so we just headed down. Sam and Shane wore full wet suits, I went in my swimsuit. I took my helmet off about halfway through. It bothers my head, and I know, I know, so you don't need to tell me of all the danger that I put you and everyone else in by not wearing a helmet. I was probably supporting terrorists by not wearing a helmet, but when I'm in suffering in hell for it, you can say "I told you so"

There was one pothole that Sam and Shane conquered that was actually a little difficult. Most of the rest of it was pretty easy. We replaced webbing in one spot, and didn't need to place any bolts. Although I am not entirely opposed to placing bolts, we didn't need to, and so we didn't. There are times when there is a necessity, but most of the time natural anchors are just fine.

There was a cool little pool with an arch that we got some pictures in.

We even practiced our dead-canyoneer's float.

Overall, it was a really fun canyon. Now I'm plastered all over Shane's website. And for those of you who are members of the Yahoo groups, This is what I was rappelling into with a hook anchor.

Don't worry, Shane's not the anti-bolt Nazi that some people are making him out to be. I could have downclimbed or just jumped this. We were just experimenting with our hooks.

Took us about 8 hours, Car-->car.
It's my job to call the BS around here. Get over it.

Glad to hear someone other than me is out doing slot canyons. Cable is a goody! I did it last year when it was a little drier than when you went. I love Cable. In fact, it's probably on my top five list. I'd love to hit it when it's this full. From what I've seen the entire Swell is full of water. I went and did Zero Gravity last Thursday, and it was at full capacity. More water than I expected. Thats awesome that you did the entire thing in a bathing suit, and the rest did it in full wetsuits. I've never used a wetsuit to do a slot canyon in my life with the exception of Imlay.

BTW, did you guys end up doing that 150 foot 3-stage rappel at the upper end of Cable, or did you just rim-walk left to avoid it?
It's only "science" if it supports the narrative.

We just hiked in. I didn't know there was a 150' staged rappel. :(

If you have a Kelsey guide, the 150 ft tri-stage rap is in the South fork labeled "Big Dryfall and Bypass"
