    Wasatch camping/biking

Hi folks, so where would be a good place to camp if I were to head down for a weekend and bike in the Wasatch mountains? I don't know any of the areas at all, I know there's Ogden canyon, Big and Little Cottonwood canyons and that's about it.

Free would be great, but not absolutely required. I'd like to be near a stream if possible (to wash my dusty legs off), not to busy (aka RV haven not good) and be able to bike right from my camp site. Is there such a place and can you tell me where it is and which trails I'd be riding?

I like single track, intermediate tech/diff max (no gonzo).

    Where to camp

You can go to North Fork canyon which is on the ogden divide and would give you access to the Southern and northern skyline trails (ben lomond trail) and I believe you can go fishing. Check out the trail at utahmountainbiking.com under northern skyline. Camping is free at North Fork. The trails are awesome and the camping is great also. Another place you could camp is at Maples campground by snowbasin and you would have access to all the trails at snowbasin, or you could camp at the top of wheeler canyon and there is a small stream and have access to many other trails. Let me know if you have any questions about these places.

Two wheels are better than four, keep the rubber side down.

Sorry I meant to answer this the other day but somehow got sidetracked. I would camp in Big Cottonwood canyon. There are a few campgrounds in the canyon. Yes they do cost some money but not much. You can ride the crest or go to millcreek and ride the trails over there. You can easily shoot out the canyon and up Little cottonwood for hiking, etc.

But really I think on a weekend you would be pretty satisfied with big cottonwood. Plenty of good hikes, fishing, and places to ride. The camping areas are near the river and very shady. I would take your canoe up to Silver Lake and row around and do some fishing!!! They recently put 2500 fish in there. Orange Power bait!!! You could also shoot over the top on a dirt road to Park City. 9You take the guardsman's pass road). Eat dinner over there, go on the alpine slide, More Mt. Bike trails, etc, etc.

Some TR's in that canyon recently:

Awesome! Thanks so much guys for the suggestions. I'm going to have to get a map out. I love when I have the Jeep loaded with the canoe, bikes and the dog; aka the vacationing machine!

Oh yeah, can I have my dog up there? Isn't one of those canyons dog-free due to watershed concerns?

I guess I forgot about the dog. Might have to stay with the doggy sitter.

Hmmm....pretty strict on the dog thing? I would have to think for a bit on an alternate location?

Thanks for the FS link! I do like to bring my dog camping and biking though. I like seeing her so happy.
