    Grandview Peak 2005

On July 9th, I met up with a bunch of other geocachers to hike up to Grandview Peak. Here's some pictures.

Everybody gathered at Rocket Park in Bountiful at about 6:30am.

The caravan taking a quick rest stop.

    Continuing up the trail.

Preparing to leave the trail head.

Loading Bunkerdave's pack with rocks to slow him down.

Our destination (the peak on the right).

Beginning up the hill to start hiking along the ridge.

"The Church" storm shelter below the peak.

    Inside "The Church."

Preparing for the final ascent to Grandview Peak (very steep).

Taking a much needed rest at the peak.

Still resting (believe me, that last ascent is a killer!).

Recovering back at the trail head. Thanks for the food, water, and Motrin, Aim High!

The setting Sun on our way back down into the valley.

That looks like a great trip. Was this just a "geocaching" trip?

Looks like quite the clan. You should get them all on here to talk about some geocaching, jeeping, and hiking.

    Great pics. Thanks man.

What exactly is that "Church" thing? Some sort of ragtag shelter?
Some days all you can do is smile and wait for some kind soul to come pull your ass out of the bind you've gotten yourself into

We did hit some caches on our way to and from the peak, but it wasn't "cachers only." Anyone was welcome. Any events that we (geocachers/UTAG) hold are open to all and are listed on the front page of the UTAG site under the "upcoming events" heading.

As for The Church, it's a rather flimsey storm shelter. But it seems to have survived for some time.
