Kolob Canyon Disaster - Zion National Park

Man I read this article yesterday. http://climb-utah.com/Zion/kolob1.htm Pretty Freaky!

I need to read about the rest of the disaster stories on that site. Not a sport to be taken lightly. I think that I would prefer to take a canyon like that in the summer when it is dry. I think I would be ok rappelling around these slots with only a camel back. However with a loaded backpack? That could get interesting.

This one (Kolob) actually has really cold flowing water in it all year long. No canyon should be taken lightly, but canyons with flowing water present a whole new set of dangers that special training and precaution is required for. The ACA (canyoneering.net) offers such courses. A lot of hardcore canyoneers around the world mostly only do canyons with sometimes lots of running water in them. Utah is pretty unique in that most of the slots are dry.
