At what point does the "road" approach join Birch? Is it before or after the first optional rappel? Also, how does it compare time wise to the "wash" approach?

If you know there is not a swimmer at the bottom, and you know you have a rope twice the length of the longest rappel: put the end of the rope through the rapide and attach a block. First rappeller...

Jordan, the approach isn't faster unless you know exactly where to go, and even at that it probably wouldn't save much time? The only obstacles that are bypassed would be the first boulder...

Ha! Embarrassingly, they are all on Fuji Velvia slides packed away in a box somewhere.

I used to shoot a lot of slides back before my kids were born but have not done much since digital took over....

Going up wild wind is quite a bushwhack and the route of least resistence can be vague unless you've done it before. Sure, you can just stay in the wash all the way up but that makes the bushwhacking...
