The deadman anchor didn't do so well throughout the winter. The large stack of rocks was kinda loose and jumbley, and, when I pulled on the sling, it came partly out. We stacked a few rocks onto it...

Sure, good advice.
IMHO, on the flip side of that, if you remove a perfectly good bolted anchor, and, someone gets hurt or killed, then you own some of that responsibility.
