English Lake District, brief visit
The first snows have fallen in Cumbria, so I took a short weekend to see my mate Steve in the Lake District. Steve normally runs here (he's a fell runner of sorts). However, with me in tow, we walked.
He and his lovely wife Wynn live on the eastern fringes of the Lake District National Park, where few tourists venture. We started at Haweswater and climbed past Small Water up to Nan Beild pass and Harter Fell. We returned via Longsledale, and encountered thigh-deep drifting snow which hid the wet bogs from our eyes (but not our feet!).
Our ascent was only 2500' or so, but a glorious mornings hike.
