Alternative Uses For Older Gear
I was the chairman of a local neighborhood carnival. Among other "attractions," we assembled a homemade Ferris wheel, and gave the neighborhood kiddies an adventure ride. We used timber logs, approximately 9-12 inches in diameter to form the"wheel." Rope lashings kept the logs together. Had securing rope tethers on opposite sides. The kids were attached to the wheel with tubular webbing harnesses and 'biners. Used helmets for safety. The "motor" was human powered. Wheel functioned without a hitch (no pun intended), was a lot of fun, was the hit of the carnival, and I entered into more than one conversation with parents about canyoneering and "how did you learn to do that...?"
