Zion Nov 8-10 2019 (Mystery, Behunin, Spry)
4 of us arrived Zion on the weekend of Nov 8, and had a blast. The weather was great, and we ended up doing 3 canyons.
- Mystery - The canyon was very colorful with the all the fall color leaves and trees. I did find the leaves very pretty, but also risky. There were section in which they covered the ground, and you couldn't tell where to step. Although the visitor center said the Narrows water temp was 32F, it didn't feel too cold (nor the water from 2nd to last rappel to the last rappel). We did suit up once we reached the shelf before the 2nd to last rappel
- Behunin - Woke up on Saturday to a smokey park, and had to do the entire approach with the smell of smoke...not too much fun. The canyon itself was dry, and I was happy that i didn't carry a wet suit that day (unlike two folks in my group :haha:). This is my 1st time doing this canyon, and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised (especially after Shane lowered my expectations - Thanks Shane)
- On the last day, the group was pooped from doing Behunin the previous days, and I had to do some nudging to convince them to do a canyon. We ended up doing Spry canyon with a late ~11am start. The approach wasn't too bad, and we even stopped next to the petroglyphs. I think this canyon is underrated, and is becoming one of my favorites. The canyon was dry for the most part except for one mandatory pothole fairly in the beginning, which was waist deep (none of us carry wet suits this time - serious shrinkage :facepalm1:), but all good. I still think it was a wise choice to do the canyon without wet suit.
Enjoy some of the pics.Attachment 93497Attachment 93498Attachment 93499Attachment 93500Attachment 93501Attachment 93505Attachment 93506Attachment 93507Attachment 93508Attachment 93502Attachment 93503Attachment 93504
