Wendover to Salt Lake via the West Desert
So, on Saturday morning, the wife and I took off for Wendover. We gambled, ate very well at Romanza, gambled and drank a bit. Lost about $500 on slots and blackjack (no surprise). This morning (Sunday), we grabbed Starbucks and McDonalds breakfast and decided to find a new route home other than I-80.
We crossed a few mountain passes until we ran into the back gate of Dugway Proving Grounds (military base). As a veteran that's done live-fire in that area, they've really beefed up this base. We pivoted and ran the Lincoln Highway east toward Skull Valley, then ran South toward Vernon before heading East on the Pony Express.
Along the route, we stopped at many springs where the mosquitos were thick, but so were the bass and carp. Who would have ever thought there'd be creeks and water along the Skull Valley / Goshute Indian Reservation area? We got bit hard and often..
What an awesome deviation from the usual I-80 route back to Salt Lake.
Photos later.
