Peek-a-boo and Spooky (April 7, 2015)
We took the family down to Bryce Canyon and Escalante over spring break. Hiking through Bryce Canyon we ran into some friends we knew from when we lived in California (what are the odds?) We met up with them the next day in Escalante and drove out to Peek-a-boo and Spooky canyons. The road was in great condition for a dirt road. Which is to say, no pot holes and the wash boards were not too bad driving with a little speed. At a very leisurely pace, with four adults and six kids ages 9 to 15 and a short lunch break, we finished completed the hike in a little over two hours. The kids loved it. My won't get on ropes wife loved it.
As we left the Dry Fork road, the Californians continued their National Parks week and headed for Moab. I figured since we were on Hole in the Rock Road, we should make the drive to see the Hole in the Rock. This would likely be the only time we would ever do that. The family relented. 30 minutes down the dirt road when we see a mileage sign posted with 27 miles to go my wife's "angel eyes" :angryfire: came out. Another 90 minutes later when we got to the end of the road the kids would not get out of the car to look at the whole in the rock. When they did walk out and take a look and saw that we were staring at Lake Powell, they were really mad! But hey, we made it back to from the end of the road in about 2h 15 minutes.
The family has sinced referred to me as Clark Griswold all weekend. :lol8:
