Birthday Weekend Splorin'
There were only 2 documented canyons in the South (East) San Juans of Colorado. I'd wanted to check out Wightman Fork for quite awhile after seeing Doug Scott's photo of the final falls. First day was rainy though so we opted for the less committing South Fork Conejos River. It ended up being non-technical but was pretty with several slides and even a small jump. Then, the sun came out and into Wightman Fork it was. Unfortunately, it only turned out to be 2 raps, but both were spectacular and there were also some slides and jumps peppered in. We scouted Prospect Creek afterward, which could be a 3 or 4 star canyon, but decided to head to Wolf Creek since none of us had done it. Can't complain about that for a birthday.
The new canyons are up on RopeWiki:
