Behunin Canyon - Out just before the rain
Hit Behunin canyon today. Our first canyon in Zion. Very cool!
Other than the hike to Scout Lookout, we didn't see anyone the entire day. Clouds were great to keep things cooler, and we were able to finish the last rappel before the rain started. Followed Tom's guide, and it was spot on and very helpful in navigating to all the raps (there are lots of options).
A few notes. I believe this canyon is recommended for more advanced parties, and I agree. Second, the rope pulls are difficult in places. Glad we had the first person down do some tests before the commit. And finally (this is coming from someone who has never hiked up to Scout Lookout or Angel's before), why does the sign at Scout Lookout say right for the West Rim Trail AND Angels Landing, and left for the West Rim spring? We followed the sign, and after a few minutes of feeling we were going the wrong way ended up (correctly) turning back around...
Note to other first timers: Once you get to the bathrooms, that is Scout Lookout, and go left.:facepalm1:
