Everyone has their list of favorite canyons. It might be because it has a great waterfall, or because it is a great workout, or it might be because it feels a little daring with walking on cliff edged, or it might just be because it is convenient. Grove Creek Canyon has it all for me. I have hiked this canyon at least 113 times today. It is a special week for this canyon, for on the fourth of July, they have a special patriotic ceremony and they they hang one of the most enormous flags across the canyon. People from all around come to see this flag hang in the canyon, or they drive up at night curious what the shadow is that is dancing on the mountain. Even though it draws a little of a crowd, it is not that big of a crowd, and it is still a great hike for the week of the 4th of July. Here is my post on the hike. Just remember when you are hiking that this hike makes an enormous Z switchback on the mountain. That means you hike into the canyon then back out to the front for a viewpoint then make sure you catch the trail heading back into the canyon so you can find the waterfalls about 2.2 miles in. A great hike. You'll love it.
