I ran the pennies thru the Coinstar at the grocery store...I had $200 in pennies and the machine took 15%. I had $500 with all the other coins, but I sure as hell wasn't going to give up that percentage on that cash in, so I had to roll them all up for my bank at no charge.
Did this right before I went to Hawaii and I spent about $2300 during the seven weeks I was there...so those change jars bit off a nice little chunk of that.
Coin shortage, huh? Maybe they'll bring those machines back to the banks. I could only hope...they used to have them and they were free for customers.
