Need any info on boots

2 years ago this Christmas time I decided I wanted to ride.
I rode for a short time in 1976 and again but with an enduro and mostly street in 1985.
I jumped the gun and bought an XR650R great bike for its application but not real fun for the trails.
I needed some gear fast and money was tight so I opted for the Thor Qaud boots that I still ride with now but they have treated me well for under $100 bucks and are designed for atv use.
The to clips are long gone but the buckles are all there.:2thumbs:

Anyway I need some education here boys before I buy my next pair and I'm out for tech 10 or Instincts. As in out of the question I can't plop $600 coin on a new pair for sure.

I have the older style bericks. I actually got the boots 5 years ago in anticipation of getting a bike. When the time comes, I will probably buy scott or alpine stars models.

Seems most get the Alpinestars and they must be very nice.
I would not know and that's why I ask.

I think I might have those fox boots and they have worked well for me thus far.

I got all excited today and thought I had my XR sold only to find out they had called me to come pick up my bike cause the are closing there doors.
I think this hard times just got extended with the reelection.

Chet has Scott 450 boots and he's had to return them twice. I've had the Alpenstar Tech 3's and they were really good. You can't go wrong with Fox. If I were buying new in this price range that's what I would go with. Keep your toes up! !

I rode with Fox boots for a lot of years, the same pair, great boots. When I finally had to replace them, feeling poor at the time I picked up some Thor boots at rocky mountain for around $100. They are the worst boots ever. In fact this remids me of the bruises above my ankles right now, they are getting thrown out when I get home today. I think it's back to FOX for me! :mrgreen:

I've got a pair of Fox red and white sz 11 that I don't wear anymore. They are in pretty good shape. Wore them for 5-6 years riding 2-3 times a month. Small hole in side from the kickstarting lever, but fantastic wear considering what they are. However the F3 fox aren't made anymore and it's all the comp 5. So I'm not sure how they compare.

Replaced them with the tech 7. You can find the tech 7 on sale for around $250-$299. I got mine for $250. Look around for them on sale. I'm very happy with them but they took forever to break in but now are FANTASTIC boots. Jarrod got the tech 8's for several hundred more and they are practically the same boot just without the bootie. Worth every single penny even if paying full retail of $350.

Just go try them on!!! I had a pair of Tech 7s that I thought were great. The more I wore them the more I hated them - rubbed me raw just above the left ankle on every ride. They are an awesome boot if they fit your foot! I ditched them and bought a set of RMMC's Arc240 - fully hinged and replaceable soles for $185. I thought they were a cheap alternative that I might as well try. They have been fantastic and I would gladly buy another set but they don't carry them any more... I hope they last a long while still. Everyone's foot is different - what fits for you may be torture for nelsoncc.

I spent a small chunk on bullet proof radiator guards and a new Leait h-4 pack so in the long run I just pulled the trigger on the Fox comp 5's.
I'm sure they will be a big improvement for me compared to those worn out Thor atv boots I used to wear.:lol8:

Yeh had some repairs to do from my Green River trip.
Seems I had a choice between saving my tent and sleeping gear or the ez up sun shade.:lol8:
She did not fare weel with 70 mph winds and hail:cool2:
But I did sleep warm and dry that night.:facepalm1:

But with some wittleed wood and some screws and some stitching shes better than the 100 bucks I spent at the last minute at wally world and all is good to go now I hope LMAO

Let me know how you like those boots. Those are the ones I was looking at getting. Right now I just ride with some heavy duty Timberline work boots. I'm sure new boots would make me much faster. ....:sly:

I splurged this last year and bought the sidi crossfire boots (I got them $100 off and they were still a small fortune). Absolutely love them. The soles and outer hardware are replaceable, totally better than my $25.00 used oneil boots :)

I've been doing alot of research in hopes of upgrading from my Tech 8's. I really like the looks of the Sidi Crossfire. Everything I've read leads me to believe that Gaerne makes the most comfortable boot with almost no break in period. Tough choice. I don't think it will be Alpinestars next time. Good boot, but overpriced IMHO.

That being said, I really like the Tech 3's as far as price goes. I just don't think my 8's are any better than the 3's. They are both comfortable though. I don't like the backward buckle in top. I tear then off regularly. Rider error I'm sure.

A word to the wise: If you buy white boots and live in the red sand areas you are every bit as dumb or crazy as me.

Red sand and white anything is a bad combo to keep clean trust me.:cheers:

The are very light and flex very nice. The fit is ok and seem to break in well so far.
They do float in water.:lol8: Don't ask me how I found this one out.
THe buckles are very narrow and I'm not sure I like that but when buckled right and locked down these boots rock.

They take a bit of getting used to as I have never owned anything this nice.
Worth every penny of the 169 smacks I paid for them and I am happy.

Sure does, I those will be my first pair of real boots that I have owned. Right now I ride with an old pair of work boots.

I started with a pair of Thor ATV boots just to get some ATGAT thing going on (ALL THE GEAR ALL THE TIME) They gave me two good years and at my experience I could not tell the pros or cons:lol8:
I do wish I had got these new ones in black however. I can't help but think everytime I put them on about star wars and the troopers in all white.:crazycobasa:

Boots IMO are one thing that will make you go faster. :cool2:

The added ankle support for hitting the whoops and the ability to use them for turning. After riding with them, it feels naked to not use them. Besides a helmet its the most important piece of riding gear to keep from getting hurt

I'd say if you want good protection skip these boots.
But if you want a boot that will allow you to do what you want while ridding then by all means get this boot if that makes any sence at all.
It has great movement but at a cost of protection is my gut feeling thus far.It would be real easy to twist an ankle but you will not skin yourself in the process.
But you can point your toes in the right direction in turns rather than heel digging in to snap your ankle or worse your knee and all involved in your knee.

Ditch the work boots. If cash is an issue, Get on KSL. That's where I picked up my Tech8's for 200 bucks. A new pair of ARC boots for 90 bucks are better than any work boot. Just hate to see you hurt! Believe me, I've twisted, bent, smashed, you name it. I can't believe I haven't broke an anke or toes. They are a must!

Personally if you'r a woods or tech type rider I'd stay clear of this boot.
Now if your a mx'r on controlled soft shit well then this is a great boot.

I would not like to get my foot between a rock,stump or? And my foot peg with this one.

Hell I got a pair size ten I'll give you just to get an idea of how cheap boots feel.:lol8:
Or maybe just give them a try so that when you purchase it may help a little.
They have been a great boot and allthough the toe clips are missing on both they have outlasted may of the more expensive Alpines and the crappy buckles they loose when you fall Like I do. RIght Garbo?

I'm sure these fox boots will handle all whoops and the big 165' table top jumps just fine.
But if you get twisted up under your ride in a big way they would suck ass.

No one tool will do it all.
And you get what you pay for for the most part..............

Any riding boot is better than work boots! That doesn't mean the cheaper boots are as good as the more expensive ones. A crappy riding boot will still protect your shins, ankles and toes. They might not be comfortable or flex very well, but wear anything but a work boot. Please. With love, Mark. :p
