Sources believe coronavirus originated in Wuhan lab as part of China's efforts to compete with US

I have been waiting for this. Another awesome trumped up conspiracy theory. I read this article back in March and bookmarked it.

Don't get me wrong. I absolutely believe China has and continues to cover up information about this outbreak and it does nothing for debunking the man engineered conspiracy theory and everyone wants a "reason" this has happened and they want to put blame on someone.Quote:
Theories of SARS-CoV-2 origins
It is improbable that SARS-CoV-2 emerged through laboratory manipulation of a related SARS-CoV-like coronavirus. As noted above, the RBD of SARS-CoV-2 is optimized for binding to human ACE2 with an efficient solution different from those previously predicted7,11. Furthermore, if genetic manipulation had been performed, one of the several reverse-genetic systems available for betacoronaviruses would probably have been used19. However, the genetic data irrefutably show that SARS-CoV-2 is not derived from any previously used virus backbone20. Instead, we propose two scenarios that can plausibly explain the origin of SARS-CoV-2: (i) natural selection in an animal host before zoonotic transfer; and (ii) natural selection in humans following zoonotic transfer. We also discuss whether selection during passage could have given rise to SARS-CoV-2.
China should have taken this seriously and not tried to cover it up. And they definitely need to stop trying to limit and control information coming out. They need earnest transparency around this but hey this is China we will not get that. So if they get blamed for this virus being engineered well they deserve it. But I prefer science over conspiracy. I haven't had more time to find more research on this subject but plan to that is another reason I bookmarked the paper.

Andrew Cuomo Now Giving Away Ventilators
Cuomo announced he would send 100 ventilators to Michigan and 50 ventilators to Maryland.
Cuomo spent weeks spreading the alarm that there might not be enough ventilators for New York, demanding that the federal government provide him 30,000 to 40,000 ventilators for his stockpile.
“You pick the 26,000 people who are going to die,” Cuomo saidin a press conference in March, in a strong message to President Donald Trump and the federal government.
Trump was widely criticized for challenging the numbers in March, asserting in an interview that Cuomo probably did not need that many ventilators.
“I have a feeling that a lot of the numbers that are being said in some areas are just bigger than they’re going to be,” he said in an interview with Sean Hannity. “I don’t believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators.”

Mayor of Las Vegas Carolyn Goodman calls business shutdown 'total insanity'
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- Mayor of Las Vegas Carolyn Goodman on Wednesday called the closure of nonessential businesses in the city "total insanity."
While opening Wednesday's City Council Meeting, Mayor Goodman said that "this shutdown has become one of total insanity." Adding, "For there is no backup of data as to why we are shutdown from the start. No plan in place how to move through the shutdown or how to even come out of it."
Mayor Goodman said that according to experts who she has spoken to, the coronavirus is "not going away."
"It's not going to be going away this month, next month, and much like the flu and other viruses that have impacted populations around the world, this virus, or a derivative there of, will be part of what we work through going forward," Mayor Goodman said.
