Biden has just banned US travel to or from 7 southern African countries due to the emergence of the omicron variant.
The omicron variant has already been found in multiple other countries around the world, including the UK, Hong Kong, Italy, Israel and Germany, and is almost certainly already here in the US.
Why ban travel when they know it won't actually keep the variant from coming here? Because they have to "do something about it."
This is called safety theater. They know their actions won't work, but that's not why they do it.
So then, why do they do it?
Imagine this scenario:
The manager of a company is sitting around the office, being lazy and not really accomplishing anything. The company's owner stops by to see how things are going. Surprised and startled, the manager jumps up, starts shuffling papers around and yells at the workers to get in gear and do what he says, or else they're in big trouble.
What is the manager accomplishing? Absolutely nothing. In fact, he's probably disrupting the workers and hurting productivity. But he needs to show that he's "doing something", or else the boss might start wondering why he even needs him.
That's how government works.
In order to convince us that they're necessary, government tries to manage every aspect of our lives.
This includes tragic, and sometimes unavoidable, things such as disease and disasters.
They run around, doing a bunch of things that won't work, and threaten us with punishment if we don't join them in running around uselessly.
In doing all of this, they actually distract resources and efforts on things that might actually help the situation. They actively make things worse.
And the worst part is that they know their actions are ineffectual at best, and harmful at worst. But they have to show you that they're "doing something about it."
That's actually a common refrain in safety theater, and its cousin, security theater.
"Don't worry, we're doing something about it! Now do what we say, or you're in trouble!"
Nevermind the fact that they never actually solve anything, and often end up making it worse.
At least they're "doing something about it."
COVID isn't going away, omicron is already here, and the sooner we realize that government isn't useful in times of crisis (or any other time), the sooner we can focus on efforts that actually are effective.
It's real simple.
In order to stop this new variant, we have to do the things that have already failed against the old variants.
But we must do it even harder this time, so even more people suffer as it fails again.
If that makes no sense to you, you're a bad person.

Ever notice how the ruling class (big government, media, academia) only talk about lock-downs, social distancing, closing schools, masks, and vaccines when dealing with the 'plague'? Why is that? Because they can be made MANDATORY and made for 1 size fits all. They don't talk about personal voluntary actions and invidual options that may be good for some but not for others.
I remember hearing a recording probably a year ago of Dr. Fauxi from pre-2020 era (like 2018/2019) where he was talking about ways people can plan and prepare themselves from viruses and getting sick, and he mentioned many of the (what should be) common sense actions: eat right, get plenty of vitamins and minerals, excercise, get out and get some sun, etc. Funny - I haven't heard him mention any of those options since about 3/2020. And for that, the economy was destroyed and we now have all kinds of restrictions on our lives.
People will say the death toll would be higher without the vaccine, however that death toll is really a lot lower when you consider someone who, for example, dies in a car accident and happens to test positive or someone already dying of a terminal illness who happens to test positive are counted as official Covid deaths.
So, many people who simply test positive, have no symptoms, but die of unrelated causes, yet still are classified as Covid deaths are what has falsely inflated the official death toll.
