Who watched the game start-finish? How many DROPPED PASSES were there by our receivers? At least 8 I'd say...Wilson would hit the receiver right in the hands, and they kept dropping the rock all night. OSU's receivers didn't seem to have a problem catching the ball...wtf?
I agree.... but this is on Whit. The offense is a large group of coach's... line, rob, wr, te. I believe BJ's play calling is actually pretty good for a rookie.Quote:

If you want to see the real problem with the offense look at the line. Its hard to throw touchdowns when you are lying on your back. And it really shows in the run game as their are no holes. The line lost 2 NFL tackles from last years team.

Add - Matthews dropped one in the 4th. There was a roughing the passer that gave the Utes 15 yards and the first. I think some may think the first int, ball that went through Christopher's hand was a drop. I think the ball was HIGH and was too hot to be considered a drop, it was a poorly thrown ball.
anyway, my take on the drops.
I agree that the final blame lies with Whittingham. But you are 100% correct in the fact that the offense is a large group of coaches and all of them are under the direction and guidance of a 25 year old kid. It is his offensive group, his show.... Everyone brings up play calling, but that is only a part of an OC's job. The big part in Sunday-Thursday, looking at film, deciding where you can attack successfully, putting together a game plan, then implementing that during the week.Quote:

Agreed that you have to execute and that's not BJ's fault. Perhaps safer, higher percentage/lower risk play calling at times would be wise.
I don't see those trick, high risk plays in the NFL or SEC. Seasoned play callers don't take those kind of risks when they don't have to. It's a numbers game.
If Utah had an O-line most of this would be a non-issue. You call trick plays to mask other problems and try to slow or take advantage of the pursuit. I have no problem with the way BJ is calling the actual game.
If Utah would have cut their dumdass mistakes in half yesterday they would have had a win.... they beat themselves....
And lets not even talk about field goals.... if we had a kicker that could hit just make a couple of the easy ones it would take a lot of pressure of the offense. Talk about stacking pressure on an already shakey unit...
Yeah, they beat themselves. That is the worst part. OSU could hardly move the ball for most of the game. The Utes coughed it up both times in the OSU redzone and then they punched it in. Without those turnovers they probably win the game.
Turnovers, dropped passes, personal fouls, missed FG's, missed tackles.... take you pick.

No doubt that the U had their chances.... But a win is a win, a loss is a loss... Turnovers, penalties, red zone issues, the kicking game...bla...bla...bla. This team needs leadership....
One more item in BJ's defence.... three different QB's in his first six games as OC? Talk about being placed in a difficult situation.... I'm not sure anyone could do much with the hand he has been dealt to date.

So you saying its BJ fault as a coach they drove down to about the 4 yrd. Line and DeVonte fumbled on a perfectly executed play that most likely would have been a play for 6, the guy could have crawled on into endzone if he could held to basically a hand off. Are you also saying that the opening drive for utes, the one where they missed the field goal is BJ's fault as well....? And off corse all the things that have already be talked about, the fumbe by willson, the several missed catches thrown almost perfect. And off course I'm sure it's BJ's fault that he's starting the 3rd string freshman....? Truth be told, I've never been a hudge BJ fan, I always thought he was over rated, but I don't really think you can say this loss was his fault, if anything, its Whits fault. He's recruited the players, I tought for the most part the play calling gave them a chance to win. I guess the rain was the problem....? Like grease on the ball....?Quote:

I am not addressing individual plays, I am talking about taking over an offense with 9 returning starters and regressing by 20%.... We're looking at the big picture, not a play here or there.
If the offense is dropping balls, throwing ints, getting stupid penalties...that is on the players AND the coaches... Do you attribute the turnaround at ASU or UCLA, with the same players, to coaching?
3rd string freshman??? He has a senior QB that went 6-3 as a starter(all against BCS teams), with a bowl win. Utah found a way to win with him last year..... Brian Johnson is also his position coach, so we should see improvement over a Spring and then camp, right?
....and to be clear, I am not blaming this loss on Brian Johnson... I am saying he is a chitty OC right now.
Last years record had to do with john whites running. And white could run last year because he had a great line, which is the big problem this year.

So if you only return 3 of 5 starters on an offensive line, your team is going to lose and lose and lose....? Fact is, most coaches lose a couple linemen every year....this isn't some catastrophic event that the Utes have to push through.
I shake my head wondering how people somehow don't see this team as BIG underachievers and this season a disappointment as far as wins vs talent on the field....
