About right....

^ We're not the only ones living it. We fall, all of mankind falls. Every freedom loving person on Earth gets demoralized and probably gives up. Israel begins a path of falling. Iran gains a permanent prop up. Hong Kongers last hope is wiped away. On and on.
We are the last and only hope for human freedom on Earth.
Beyond belief that we're 3 weeks away from voting in permanent, one party Marxist rule.
Funny thing about that...They came begging to Galt because all the brains had gone on strike and they were desperate. Ayn Rand couldn't have possibly imagined this computer age...anything anybody wants is available at their fingertips...Amazon will see to that. No brains necessary, just cheap foreign labor.
I wonder what she would say if she were alive today...probably "We're screwed".
Oh hell...anything can happen, Doug. Sure would be interesting to get into a time machine and travel 50 years into the future, huh? Just to have a look around...maybe hang out if it's appealing.
I was too young to remember, but a lot of people in 1968 figured it was all soon to come to a screeching halt. I reckon that's where the bum with "The End Is Near" sign was born? We've been living with the next big uppercut one way or another ever since.
The biggest crazy twist that no one saw coming was what happened in '16...it very well may be that 5 years from now the lay of the land with be far different than what some may imagine...not nearly as dire, perhaps.
Hey, I'm hopeful...what else is there to be? Just stock up a camper for buggin' out in case things get weird every now and then.
Capitalism is still the engine that financially drives this country, it is the haves and have nots for a reason and rightly so.
When government makes it impossible to survive in business, due to over regulation, business adapts--goes elsewhere or retires and goes to a business friendly clime(Galts Gulch)
Look no further than Cal. and Washington state for running business away and states like Texas are sucking them all in with business friendly politics.
The steel mills of yesterday are todays tech giants.
I was thinking along these lines today...If Biden should pull off a win, then it shows that the Great American Experiment of freedom, liberty, individualism, self reliance finally came to a crashing halt.
It was too much...a way of life unlike any other in history and at least half the humans couldn't get their heads around it. And I would attribute the main ingredient as being class envy...class warfare.
Perhaps an inevitability...when I was a kid you could tell who the rich ones were by their cars, clothes, houses...everybody else was pretty much cruising around the same level. But in the last 40 years those that wanted to accel figured it out while so many others just couldn't keep up...along with everyone trying to "look" rich when they weren't. Spoiled, fat. lazy and stupid. Bring everyone down to their level 'cuz you just can't get to theirs.
If America goes down the tubes history will show it was because we ate ourselves alive. Too much freedom was too much to handle...isn't that crazy?
Yeah...too resilient to even let it happen, IMO.
I'm just trying to imagine how a world such as the one Ayn Rand envisioned could actually occur...because it sure looks like that path has been laid before our very eyes. Maybe that "dose" you describe is what is trying to be forced down our throats right now, at this moment? Maybe this is it...the big showdown...not a long, slow slog but a battle Royale...only one will come out on top.
We'll find out just how tough they are in a few weeks.
Ha! Reminds me of the research I've been doing in the past two years regarding truck campers. Just because you have a truck doesn't mean you can slap anything on it that you want...you gotta consider the GVWR. Surprisingly, more than half the rigs I've seen (chatting up owners on road/camping trips) are overloaded...and those owners that have any concern about it at all have sunk lots of money into the suspension to accommodate what they're hauling around.
It's gotten to the point that I can see one going down the road and tell if it's jacked up...meaning you'd better have some good tires on that thing and cross your fingers!
