If Travis Wilson is Utah's future it's time to start him. Hays just doesn't have the arm strength to zing the ball in fast enough. PAC12 safeties and corners are just too fast. They close on the receiver while the ball is on it's lazy trajectory. It wasn't much of a problem when playing teams with little speed in their defensive backfields, but its a death sentence against the speed of ASU and USC.
The prob with that is that Wilson doesn't know the offense. Kinda like Taysom Hill...check first read, then run for your life. :crazycobasa: :lol8:

Its a tough call. Hays did okay against USC, but he's an QB average at best. I heard the stat on the radion that out of 12 collegiate starts Hays has not broken the 200 yards passing mark in any of those games...
My bet is they will start Hays against UCLA... :popcorn:

Right now he's our guy. We are pleased with his initial performance. We don't want him playing on eggshells. There is a fine line - we talk about being competitive and we need him to perform, but at the same time he has to know that we have confidence in him and what we saw in that game we have confidence in him that he will continue to perform.
[We were impressed with] number one the poise and accuracy he displayed. A true freshman going into the Rose Bowl for his first significant playing time, to be the guy and have the starting role, I thought he responded well. UCLA is a good defense, they are athletic and fast, and I thought he responded pretty good.
I too believe Wilson is our guy. I think he's the UofU's go to guy for the next 4 years. That said, we need to get some offensive line in there to protect Wilson.

^^^^ Those numbers may be off.... Looks like 117 in total offense(yards per game), out of 120 total FBS teams. They are 107th in scoring, which is really what counts, points on the board..... But to be clear, our scoring is down 20% from last year.
...also, a somewhat fun stat, the D has actually scored 4 touchdowns, which is 20% of their total points scored this year and counts in their 107th ranking in total points. In reality, the offense is averaging 18 points a game.....and 14 points a game against FBS opponents.

I have no problem with BJ, in fact I think he is doing a good job and will be a real asset down the road. The problem with Utah is execution. BJ isn't the one missing tackles, fumbling the football, missing field goals, throwing interceptions or getting the personal fouls. Clean up those problems and Utah would have a descent record.Quote:

You know what....I am surprised, it is hard to believe that someone could take what was a mediocre, at best, offense...but experienced, ready to make improvements and make it worse..... Then again, I didn't like this hire back in February. You know, the 25 years old, 2 years of coaching experience, the position you are coaching is arguably the worst on the team....showing no jump in improvement....Quote:
