I can see in the background somebody being towed into the waves via jetski. Hell, I could do that. I think the hardest part is just getting up from the board, onto your feet.
Most of these big wave riders have footstraps on the board, like a large wakeboard.
I'd love to give it a try.
the problem with riding a big wave is speed, hence the jet skis pull cause you cant run that fast or swim that fast. They pull you in between sets, pick a winner, pull across the wave& down, go as fast as you can and let go of the jet ski....thats the easy part. If you go down you get buried by a 4 story building...fun stuff! :2thumbs:
Yeah, those freakin' big waves, when they crash, the force alone will create a wind to knock most of those boys off of their boards. :eek2:
We were in Hawaii last year for Christmas and I took the boogie board out. The waves weren't massive, but I gained a whole new respect for the ocean. When I finally go the hang of it, the first big ten footer i caught, I wan't quite in front of it, but on top. It broke right near the beach and I got a mouth full of sand and the wind knocked out of me. I stood up in waist deep water trying to open my eyes with all the water and sand in them, when I get pummeled by another wave. I blindly made my way to shore half swimming and half crawling. That ended the day for me. That shiz is scary stuff.
Here are a couple of shots I took...the wind had come up and the haze youre seeing is mist, not clouds but the background started to cloud up at the time...
