I was gonna try for a lottery Subway ticket - tonight.
Wasach, doesn't seem like anyone has signed up for Echo or Spry so maybe no one wants to do those canyons.
Seems to be a lot of interest in Englestead and Orderville. Wanna co lead a trip like that? We could put folks on belay from the bottom (the only scary part being that first rap in). Or Birch & down thru Orderville?
Only problem with that is that Birch might require a 4WD I think - I don't have one. I'd like to do Orderville again - it's wonderful!
No, Randi. The dates remain. Things happen and this is on me that I didn't check the dates. Originally I had planned on having it earlier in the month but when it was bumped back to the end, I should have caught it. Dates remain and it is going to be AWESOME!Quote:

Josh, Brad & Cody would also like to be put on the Das Boot/Subway group list.
We have our own gear, including ropes (3 x 60 meters each, static). Josh & I did Das Boot/Subway last year and would be happy to assist the leader in any way needed. Cody and Brad have not done the route but aren
What about Orderville Canyon?
That is an awesome trip for Newbie's! No one wants to lead it?

http://www.zionnational-park.com/zio...lle-canyon.htm
Also someone could consider doing a Sunday Subway trip since that canyon is full already.
Saturday is the most popular day so we could have some more of those trips going. Many newbies will only do a Saturday canyon and then they have to drive home.

Are those Sunday trips? If we tag a day on them it will help.
I suppose I could be considered a newbie, to this group anyway. I've done lots of hiking and backpacking, but mostly in AZ, the Grand Canyon especially. I've done a few hikes in Zion, most notably a through hike of the Narrows a couple years ago, and Angel's Landing a couple times. Nothing really crazy... I'm really looking forward to getting some play time in these canyons...
Sure looks like fun!
Hank
I would like to head into Echo and/or Spry with you Randi? Not sure what day(s) you were planning them for? I may be able to tag along on the Pine Creek/Keyhole as well with Shaggy! :2thumbs:
Bo
Welcome to the group Hank! You know Bo from the Grand Canyon and Zion Yahoo Groups.
Randi and Bo I will put Sunday on those trips. If I have things wrong just let me know please and I will fix them.
Tanya, thanks for helping me get set up for these hikes. I'm looking forward to finally meeting Bo and seeing you again... and maybe exploring some ideas I have for an 'interesting' loop in Marble Canyon one of these days. I'll be scouting out part of the route in a couple weeks...

I guess I'm on my own. I hope to heck "someone" in the group can navigate! So if you don't show up Shaggy, Don can take your spot on the Subway hike. I do hope your schedule changes and you are able to make it! Work sucks! There's no way I'd even do it if I didn't need the green!
PS: I went on line last night to get a lottery for the Subway and the only month they had available was for July! What does this mean? A June calendar isn't available on-line for "regular" permits....not until April 5th Tanya? So I guess I need to get back on line & try to get a permit on the 5th then? I hope I can get one!
We had to make some changes due to Shaggy's maybe schedule.Quote:

Mystery is an awesome canyon where the last rappel takes you into the Zion Narrows. It is a favorite of many.
Pine Creek and Keyhole you did last trip, but when the water level changes Pine Creek can seem like a whole different place.
In my limited time with my trip coming up on Friday I've read a bit on the Zion canyons. I think my clan, Ststephen (aka Paul), Robin and Aaron would probably be OK with Mystery and that sounds like a great slot. The rap over the boulder might be tricky but they are not first-time rappelers.
OTOH, we would also be fine doing any of the easy canyons like Orderville. We plan to be there for full days Sat and Sun. I know 3 people eats up a lot of spaces on a permit so I want to be flexible.
My last checkin here is tomorrow night. Thanks to all the organizers!
Hi Paul.
I have you for Mystery on Sunday. How about this trip on Saturday: These are awesome canyons for those that have not done them. Most of our group did them last year though.
Leader: Shaggy and Bo
Pine Creek and Keyhole on Sunday - 12 limit
Just skimmed the description: those sound like fun! My son and wife have wet suits that they use for swimming in the ocean. I guess I'll need to get one too.
Sure put us down for these on Sat and Mystery on Sun. That sounds like a good progression as well.
Oh, Spry on Sat with MrBrechia sounds like fun to. Sign me up for that, pretty please.
And +1 on Orderville being awesome. Be sure to bring a tube for the relaxing float down the narrows at the end. If I had to pick between Subway (non das boot) and Orderville I would pick Orderville personally. But with Das boot, it's a toss up.
:2thumbs:
Sunday canyon looks good. Thank you!

Two things: did I miss out on the 6 for das boot? if so, i'll plan on just doing subway. also, wanted to find out if you are going to start a wait list? if so, i'd love to add on my friend kristen for both of the saturday and sunday canyons with me. thanks again!! :2thumbs:
As a result of a sultry direct request from Tanya, I'm in. I'll see what permits I can pick up tomorrow night, and post up soon.Quote:

If by some strange reason that doesn't work, plan "B" would be to do Spry.
I got 3 Walk-in Mystery permits last year, key was being there early.
They are offering no on-line permits for Mystery during this Fest.
Maybe we can offer alternatives if we can't get permits, for canyons like Birch that do not need permits. I like Birch probably better than any of the canyons in/around Zion other than Kolob!
Rock! Kolob is the BEST!!!! :haha:
Seems like kolob/eye is on the full side. I would hate to be waiting to rappel for 20 minutes in that cold ass water lol. Anyways anyone doing anything else on friday? Seems to me that there is only one trip for friday?! im willing to wait for the walk-ins for mystery on friday and then what? Anyone want to do a canyon that day? Ill do anything!
:doorpeak:
Since Das Boot is full I'm thinking of knocking that canyon off my hit list sooner and let someone else take my spot, as long as there is enough leadership for that canyon, or have a Friday permit.Quote:

I'm game for what ever. Let me know which canyons and I'll try securing a permit.
Birch maybe a good Sunday canyon.
What permits did someone get? Anyone need me to get one.

OK it looks like I'm in. Unless something gets planned for scouts.
It will be me, my wife(canyongirl), brother in law(chabidiah) and another brother in law who doesn't have a name on here. So 4 total.
We were hoping to do a Telephone/Behunin combo on Saturday. And we were hoping to join Kurt's group on Sunday with the Yankee Doodle/new canyon if possible.
Chabidiah is the most experienced in the group. I would classify myself as intermediate/noob. I feel confident in getting myself and my wife down and I can teach the basics but probably some rappelling experience is needed to come with us. We have not done either canyon before so if anyone has we would love to have you with us to speed things up. Seems like we always take the "scenic route" when trying to navigate new canyons.
Add Jaxx and Crew to My Sunday's Excellent adventure.
I privated Jaxx, all people coming on trips with me should have prior rappelling experience. The canyons are never a place to learn.(first time rappelling)
