I would like to do Amasa Back - awesome trail, but of course, I'd do any trail really  including Slickrock.
Porcupine Rim...
I gotta get in shape quick...shit. :help:
Porcupine maybe with a shuttle up to the trailhead and maybe a stop at Moab Diner at the end?? :mrgreen:Quote:

I'm planning to take part in adventures on Friday the 1st and Saturday the 2nd of May. I'll be missing out on Sunday, and I know that only some people will be there Friday...
I'm hoping to be ambitious and get a couple of shorter routes done on one day, and a longer one the other. Or perhaps one short route each morning (on which the less experienced can join in without feeling much pressure) followed by something just slightly more adventurous later in the day (or vice versa?) And after that, maybe a moonlight hike to Delicate Arch?
Here are a few routes I'd be interested in:
U-Turn (2 hours)
Tierdrop Canyon (3 hours)
Medieval Chamber (3 hours + shuttle time)
Elephant Butte (4 hours)
Cameltoe (4 hours)
Granary Canyon (6-7 hours)
Some are in Arches NP, others are close to the group camp site. There will be lots of ropes and lots of harnesses (bring helmets if you got 'em!). People with experience rappeling, anchoring, and belaying. We just need some people keen to join in...
Any interest in doing any of these? Perhaps U-Turn and Elephant Butte one day, Cameltoe and Medieval Chamber the other? Or dedicate one of the days to Granary Canyon?
Thoughts?
Yes, very interested. No experience beyond the Subway with a diaper sling and a half rope though. Never done a rappel longer than about 30 feet and it's been 20 years since I did that. I'm sure I'd need to work up to a longer one or a free rappel.Quote:

It looks like my oldest son and I may be able to attend this event. Going to be down the weekend before at the car show but I'm working on my wife for a kitchen pass. I will not need camping space I'll just stay in town.Quote:

These are my opinions of the best of what is available in moab.
Rock of Ages is a must do. For moab it's good and the name is cool.
The two canyoneering routes in fiery furnace are the best in moab. They can be combined with a cool short cut and be done in a half day. Getting the permit is a pain but worth it.
U turn is better then tierdrop.
Dragon fly is fun. The hike out is a little long.
Granary has the most meat of anything in moab but the shuttle is a pain. With the shuttle it is a full day. If you can get someone to drive you up and dump you out that really helps.
There are several others that can be discussed.
How many want to go canyoneering?
I'll tag along along on what ever the group wants to do. As far as other activities I am game for jeeping, biking or motorcycling.
My son will want to go motorcycling. If any want to tag along on a couple of awesome motorcycle rides we've got a bunch. One of our favorites is. We combine steel bender, behind the rocks and then come down pritchett canyon, these are all jeep trails in the area. You can also combine poison spider, golden spike and metal masher and then head down long canyon or come back around up rusty nail and back to gold bar campground. Both of these adventures take about a half a day. There are dozens more but these two are fun. If you haven't got a bike but have experience you can rent them in moab about $150 per day. To do these it helps if your bike is road legal. But you can work around that if you have to. Just some suggestions.
If jeeping is on there are dozen of trails but moab rim is the best trail in town. Short and fun.
Thats the beauty of moab multiple activities can be done in one day.
If I can pull it all off, I plan on heading down thursday night and coming back sunday night.
Mark
This is your friendly reminder to make sure to tell me if you and anyone else coming with you will want to use the group campsite. Please look at the front of this post to get details. Regarding canyons, hikes, biking, etc.....you guys group up and get it organized/firmed up and let me know so I can put it on the first page as well. :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:
figures....I'll be in the Swell that weekend.....maybe next time
SO far, this is my 'plan' for Moab. biking, hiking, jeeping, geocaching, and hopefully swimmin hole. Bumming around town, general hanging around doing whateverthehell we feel like :haha:

* Alison did Slickrock practice loop on a bike one time and vowed to never do it again* :lol8:
Just posted a topic in the Canyoneering section, looking for folks who are interested in doing that to speak up over there. :2thumbs:
5 weeks and counting...
...actually, I was thinking of taking some us and heading to Bartlett Wash area. Lots of every kind of slickrock terrain for every skill level. Also, riding thru town you can hit lots of beginner trails too. No limit to what you can ride down there. :nod:Quote:

I'd bring one down but I don't have an extra one right now in stock. :ne_nau:
Wait did I just agree to riding a mountain bike? In Moab? Where they have hard slick rock to crack my head on? Sorry I must have smoking crack Wade. HAHA!!!! If someone would take me on a completely noobie trail, I may be willing. :ne_nau:Quote:

I've still got my old bomber hardtail to lend if you're anywhere close to 5'7". My FS rig is awaiting a fork rebuild so I'll be on my pure XC hardtail this time. It's no good for anything crazy so I'll be steering clear of rock gardens and 2+ foot drops. It's great for Slickrock but I'm not so sure about doing Porcupine with the steeper geometry.Quote:

Here is a great spot to get the feel for slick rock. Go to the slick rock bike trail. Ride your bike or push it up through the first saddle. Getting through the saddle is the hardest part of the whole ride. After you get through that saddle right in that area is a great area to go up and down and around. You can spend about an hour learning the ropes. DO NOT try the practice loop on your first adventure. It's as hard as the whole trail just shorter. This area is my 7 year olds favorite spot to ride his mtn bike. He also rides his 70 motorcycle all over in this area. Loves it. The best part is if your not having fun you are two minutes from your car and asphalt.Quote:

Will need to give a final payment on April 15th. :2thumbs: You guys keep the recommendations coming and I will update them as needed. :2thumbs:
I'll make myself a note to remember a couple flagpoles...and an american flag too :mrgreen:Quote:

If they don't mind making the 4 hour drive one way to meet us & party like it's 2009 then by all means bring 'em down :2thumbs:Quote:

Ok bum deal going on here........I really thought it'd be cool to get a Bogley flag made but time and money are of essence. I've priced having one made at a local sign/print shop and sheesh....the one we would want is running $250. They can go cheaper, but it would be tiny. I just can't spend it. SO...............if anyone else in a larger city with more options would like to check on it, let me know. We only have less than 3 weeks until moab. If it doesn't happen, then it's no biggie but thought it would be cool. I've also been really busy with making costumes for a big dance I have coming up and attempting to practice as often as I can so the stress is kicking in.....i haven't update the Moab thread as often as I'd like. So it's still on and I will make the final payment for the campground this week. Please check the list one last time and make sure you are either on or off? Let me know!
I can bring a big Polish flag in the event we don't get Bogley in time :haha: Not sure about places in the valley but I can add a brick into a purchase of a Bogley flag.Quote:
