Randi. I have passed the Canyoneering test on the shoulder. I would love to accompany you IF... you still have room and I don't have to work that day. Yes, I actually got a job after over a year, 3rd temporary retirement is over starting tomorrow!
Would LOVE to have you join us! If you're not working! And maybe Tim & Nickie too! Keeping my fingers crossed! :)
Oh my - you say that like you're happy about it! What the hell's wrong with you? I've been trying to find a way to retire (even once) for years now - and you've actually retired 3TIMES already! And now you're giving up 'free' time' for a JOB!?! YUUUUCK!Quote:

No problem, we know its nice to take a shower after a few days of camping! We are planning on coming up to the potluck and bringing a smoked turkey. I am thinking around 5-6pm. Been needing to meet some Bogleyites:clap:
Post about dinner Thursday:

I'm guessing 6 to 6:30 at the Pizza & Noodle? Anyone?
As for canyons/hikes I'm planning:
Friday: Angels Landing (maybe another day?), Yankee Doodle or Lower Fridge, Keyhole.
I plan to do both Keyhole and Pine Creek on Saturday. I have a 12 spot permit for Keyhole (9 free), and hope to get a walk-in for Pine Creek. Anybody want to join?
I still have a reservation for 6 in Mystery on Sunday, but the flows do not seem to be tapering off yet, with 5 days to go. Hmmm. Behunin is a backup - 6 spots (3 of us)
Kev do you think Sarah and I would be ok for one of those spots?
I'm leaning towards doing Subway on Friday, but want to get a little more beta on flow levels. My family (3 of us) are up for Keyhole and Pine Creek as well. Love to join you Kev on Saturday if that makes sense. Or there is enough interested people maybe we can organize another walk-in permit group Sat or Sun?
Maybe I should jump on your Sat. permit too Kev so the girls and I have a group to go with!
My few interested/semi interested parties are maybes! That would be Don & E and Hank.
So yeah, go ahead and add us three!
If more people wanna do Keyhole on Sat. - I can go ahead & keep the permit I have and just reduce the numbers.
Sucks in situations like this that you can't have more than 12 in a group.
Yeah, E and I are on board for Keyhole. Either Friday or Saturday; we've got an open schedule, but would rather do it with a big-fun-group! He may be a little slow on rappels. In fact, he will not be rappeling; he will need to be lowered down or go dual with me. I'll be bringing all my hardware and ropes and plan to rent him a wetsuit & helmet.
Helmet - I'm planning on just having the kids use their bike helmets. Is there a downside to that? Would I be better off renting? We will rent wetsuits for them. Perhaps footwear as well.
The guy at Zion Rock & Mt said he'd throw in a helmet with a wetsuit rental.
We will be renting wet suits (i hate wet suits). I have lots of questions about taking her through but we can talk about that Thursday night.
Kev - what does your Friday group for Keyhole look like?
If you get in on Kev's Fri. trip - I'll bail on my Keyhole permit and go with Kev Sat.
If not, I'll keep my permit and we will be a small FUN group! Maybe bigger if more folks sign on.
I think wet-suits can be rented over at ZAC's for $15
How big is E Don? I might have a suit that will fit him - it's smallish - used to be Rachael's when she was 12 or so.
I'll bring what I have. Have you guys been keeping an eye on the weather forecast?
Looks like Sun is gonna be iffy - 60% chance of rain.
I don't have any commitments from anyone for my Keyhole spots, except Cher

Oh wait! I totally forgot about Bill, Nicki and Tim! I think they're on-board for Keyhole too!
Or at least two of them are! :)
I guess we got ourselves a group after all!
Duh! Sorry! OK, 6 of us in Keyhole and Pine Creek on Saturday. So if Randi et al joined, that would make 9-10 for Keyhole. Then we'd see about Hank - it would be great if he could make it.
Perhaps D&E and C&S could go on Friday, and see how they & the kids liked it, and see if they'd do it again the next day. (I think I'll be convincing my kids to go both days, but I'll try to be - moderately - flexible.:haha:)
Edited to add: Hang on - it looks like 2 groups for sure, anyway!!!
As much as I don't want to miss out on the big group Saturday I think Friday would be better for me & E to do Keyhole. Josh is coming down Friday night so he'll have his daughters and I'm sure E would like to hike Saturday with his cousins. We're not sure where yet, but our Saturday will probably have to be non-technical.
I have to hike a non-technical weekend because Aidan isn't quite Keyhole or PC ready. :cry1: It's all good though. There are so many places I haven't seen yet in Zion so it will be fine. :haha:
Oh and my friend Deb and her son are not able to make it, but another friend and her son will fill Deb's campspot. Their names are Kristel and River. :)
A great hike would be to take the kids to Cave Valley. Pretty easy hiking, nice pictographs, a neat cave and a bit of scrambling at the back of the valley to a nice viewpoint. I'd be up for leading a hike out there Saturday if anyone is interested. No crowds, either!! This is about 8 miles up Kolob Terrace Rd.

Ok cool! Well if there are spots or permits open for Keyhole, I am sure my adventurous 6 year old would want to go with. It'd be mommy's dream come true to have him do a canyon with me. He's like a little mountain goat anyhow. I'll just wait to get to camp and speak with everyone to find out who is doing what. Speaking of Zion this weekend, I better get downstairs and start dragging camp gear BACK up for the 4th time in the last month. HAHA!! Need to take inventory of the food container. Getting excited!!!!
Randi, we are planning on coming out Sat nite with a few others to pay a visit. We'll be bringing something to eat, not sure what Yo has planned.
Middle Fork is the way to go. You're hiking in and out of the creek and it's really pretty. One of our favorite hikes.

I was hoping to pull out a here tonight. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!!:cry1: Oh well first thing in the AM. See ya all Thursday.
So what are the plans for meeting up. Mabey we could get Kev to mention it in his first post?
Hello all. I'm brand new on here, and to canyoneering as well (though I've done a lot of technical rock routes in Colorado). Trying to get to Zion this weekend -- would be great to meet some others! Never been to Zion -- any chance of showing up Friday and finding a campsite (for 1 tent) anywhere?
Jaxx,
We're meeting for dinner at the Pizza Noodle tomorrow evening around 6-6:30.
I haven't heard plans for Friday night dinner (I'll either cook in camp or hit that Thai place just outside the park).
We're doing a Pot-Luck dinner Saturday night, I haven’t heard a time for that but, just come by Saturday evening. We're monopolizing the D-loop in Watchman (Loop D sites: 06, 08, 15, 28, 29, 31, 32, 33, 34) just come around and look for Bogley stickers and tee-shirts.
I don't have details for meeting up for hiking. I assumed we'd get all that sorted at the Pizza Noodle...
Erik,
Can't speak for everyone but I've got a full site. Probably worth you time to come around though; even if there's no room for you we could point you in the right direction and you'll be able to hook up with us for hiking...
My kid arrive there this morning.
Everyone: have fun and play safe!!!!
Out the door! E and I are on the road! We'll likely stay around Cedar tonight. Might even find a hotel with a pool just for the fun of it. See you tomorrow!
Jeep took a dump. At this point I don't know if it's the radiator or a hose 'cause the fluid had gotten into the fan so everything is wet. E and I found a reasonably priced room and I talked 'em into a vet discount. We'll figure out the Jeep in the morning. And my little brother pointed out that there are worse things than spending the night in Beaver.

Hey - family forum here! :nono:
Better still make dinner tomorrow!
Oh, and I'm languishing at the Mandalay Bay hotel right now. Such a long elevator ride ride to the 34th floor - and the hallway to the room is about a block long! Looking forward to Watchman tomorrow night.
Thanks! If I can get down there I will definitely stop by to say hello and try to meet up for some hiking.
Any thoughts on what to bring to Sat. potluck? The wife and I will be coming down and going to the potluck with Win and Yo and Thane and Dana.
