Do I believe this is more about money and control than anything else? I do.

Yes....My children’s (and everyone's) freedom and liberty is too important.
^^^^^^^Very well stated
Here is an interesting video on Singapore and the lengths they have gone to to keep an outbreak of any emerging disease at bay. Again they developed these measures after the last SARS outbreak.
http://youtu.be/IdDpmAt3lxo
Just to be clear. I am not panicked by this outbreak more people die of diabetes than will from this virus yet Americans me included don't do much about our horrible diets. If we poured the same amount of energy into diets as this virus imagine the lives we could save.
I have had a fascination with all things microscopic since I was in elementary school one of the first big reports I ever researched and wrote was on the Black Death... in fact I am pretty certain in a memory box somewhere I still have that report. I have a healthy respect for viruses and bacteria and diseases they can cause. So tiny, yet so miserably deadly. I guess that is why microbiology has always been my favorite subject and why I am involved in teaching it.
Anyway back to the video. Singapore, South Korea, and China all have apps that alert citizens to infected people and where they have been. That would never fly in America. I think many of us me included would find that too invasive.
I thought you all might enjoy the video. They do more than just track people to help reduce the spread of an outbreak. I think the biggest measure was making sure every hospital had the ability to test for the virus as soon as they knew about it. Giving them the ability to start the contact tracing and help stop the chain of transmission. Three other measures that I think are key are keeping everything in public spaces super clean. Education, education, education. And last temp checks frequently in public places.
Having a solid plan in place that public is aware of would help decrease the panic at least I hope it would. Shutting down an entire society is ludicrous. But overloading the healthcare system with sick people because you are not prepared can't happen.
Here is one more on China. This one I found interesting because of the app they show. You literally can see how far an infected person is from your location.

Yes, they are free to move about and do whatever they want, and have free access to everything (medical, education, food, housing, welfare) they want from now until the end of eternity. To suggest that they are ever impeded from any movement, either with a barrier at the border, or detention to verify if they are suspected criminals or trafficers, accuse them of any crime, or limit their movements within or between cities is completely racist and will not be accepted in any way at all.
Maybe they should see if Trump can spare any wall funding:roflol:
Oh, I can’t wait till we get single payer government ran healthcare. Yeah!!!
The government sucks at pretty much everything they do. When it comes to healthcare and the economy, it really sucks.

Wish granted. I doubt I was the only one who asked to have them list the hospitalizations but I sent them a little message and they now include how many are in the hospital.

In case anyone wants the live briefing for Utah each day.
https://www.facebook.com/UtahDepOfHealth/
The do it around 1PM.
After hearing Birx and Fauci today at the WH briefing, I think we'll be locked down till the end of May at least. Possibly end of June.
I don't see baseball starting until August. Basketball probably cancelled outright. Football seasons probably go as normal.
I've been watching these briefings for about a week now, then as a test I turn on cbs,nbc to compare notes.
As of yet they have not accurately represented any of the briefings.
They take snippets and twist and turn them into nothing but hysteria and orange man bad(watched lester and nora)
I've concluded my little experiment now and can only reaffirm--these folks want to destroy this country and they want dead bodies to only blame Trump.
Take the same briefing challenge, it's mind numbing and makes you want to throw things at the tv.
or better yet--just have cocktail hour and enjoy time with your spouse, these folks are as evil as pelosi.
Heres an example of the hysterics.
Dr. Birx put up the "model" based on if the virus was to act similarly throughout the country as it has in NY, NJ, Conn.
The white house(Trump) said he thinks we will be well below those numbers if we maintain our strict quarantine for 30 days.
So the ap writes this hysterical headline:
White House projects 100K to 240K US deaths from virus
however--in the article, they give Dr. Birx's actual assessment:
“We really believe we can do a lot better than that,” said Dr. Deborah Birx, the coordinator of the White House coronavirus task force. That would require all Americans to take seriously their role in preventing the spread of disease, she said.
then the ap adds their opinion:
The jaw-dropping projections were laid out during a grim, two-hour White House briefing. Officials described a death toll that in a best-case scenario would likely be greater than the more than 53,000 American lives lost during World War I. And the model’s high end neared the realm of possibility that Americans lost to the virus could approach the 291,000 Americans killed on the battlefield during World II.
then back to a snippet of truth:
“We are continuing to see things go up,” Fauci said. “We cannot be discouraged by that because the mitigation is actually working and will work.”
then more hyperbole:
It was an abrupt reversal for Trump, who spent much of last week targeting April 12 as the day he wanted to see Americans “pack the pews” for Easter Sunday services.
this is not a "reversal", this is reacting to actual numbers and evidence in a very day by day/fluent situation.
It's all about damaging Trump and our country, in that same effort.
these news folks, they are in no way journalist or reporters, they are national enquirer level sensationalist.
I hope some day the country can repay them for their misdeeds.
MSNBC host Joe Scarborough recently tweeted: "There is no public benefit to this briefing. The networks should all cut away."
Scarborough’s colleague Rachel Maddow took things even further, urging television networks not to air White House updates on the coronavirus pandemic, claiming "misinformation" will kill people.
“If it were up to me, and it's not, I would stop putting those briefings on live TV. Not out of spite but because it's misinformation,” Maddow told viewers last week. “If the president does end up saying anything true, you can run it as tape but if he keeps lying like this every day on stuff this important, all of us should stop broadcasting it. Honestly, it's gonna cost lives."
The Daily Beast reported this week that CNN and MSNBC staffers are peeved their bosses continue to air the briefings.
But even with the fake news cries:
Cornell Law School professor and media critic William A Jacobson told Fox News that the “anti-Trump media forgot the maxim, 'Don't wish too hard for something, you might get it.'”
“Media demanded greater access to Trump, and they got it. He takes dozens of questions at these daily press briefings from hostile reporters. And he's handling it so well that the ratings are through the roof and his favorability soaring,” Jacobson said.
Dr. Anthony Fauci cautioned CNN’s Jim Acosta for taking him out of context while responding to his question at the White House press briefing on Tuesday.
Acosta asked the federal doctors if the United States could have prevented more deaths by acting to mitigate the virus sooner with social distancing guidelines.
“If there was no virus in the background, there was nothing to mitigate. If there was a virus there that we didn’t know about, then the answer to your question is probably yes,” he said.
Fauci added, “The only trouble with that is that whenever you come out and say something like that, it always becomes almost a soundbite that gets taken out of context.”
Both Birx and Fauci said it was unclear precisely when the virus was infecting people in the United States, even though cases were not apparent.
“In a perfect world, it would have been nice to know what was going on there, and we didn’t,” he said. “But I believe, Jim, that we acted very, very early in that.”
President Donald Trump added that he acted early to stop travel from China at the end of January to help prevent the virus from spreading.
“We were very early, and I also think we were very smart,” he said.
War Vet, 95, Defeats Coronavirus: ‘I survived Guam, I can get through this bulls–t.’
They didn’t earn the title, “Greatest Generation” for nothing and Bill Kelly, a feisty 95-year-old war veteran who contracted the coronavirus two weeks earlier, shrugged it off, and is now as healthy and ornery as ever, is the epitome of that description.
