Look at the 1st and 2nd row of photos... this is the 300 ft rappel. It was scary and my arm was tense, so it got tired. That is what is scary when you go --- dang! My arm is exhausted.. I am going to FALL!!!!
I LOVED it :five:
That is Bo in the photohttp://www.zionnational-park.com/ima...tead-f_jpg.jpg
300 feet is a huge rappel but I totally want to do that. It looks awesome!
I would like to come. I can bring a rope or two.
It will be great to have you!Quote:

What is everyones thoughts? We can do a different place on Friday and Saturday night maybe. Anyone want to be in charge of party time?
Let's shoot for 6pm since some people like to go to bed early and are staying in St. George and those who finish canyons late can still show up because the group will still be there. Let's take some suggestions for where to party -- Springdale will probably work best for everyone. Will this work?
We could even have a pot-luck, drinkfest at my house one or all of those nights. That would be easy for those staying here. If campers are in Mosquito Cove that is between St. George and Zion so it would not be too bad for them. Or we could just have the drinkfest here after the restaurant dinner. :lol8:
Restraunt Choices
Friday Night and Saturday Nights - 6pm until whenever
St George places is an option but probably not as convenient as Springdale for everyone.
Bit n' Spur Salon and Mexican Restaurant
http://www.bitandspur.com/
Zion Pizza & Noodle Company
Sadly they only take cash and local checks. They do serve beer.

Oscars is good too and there is room outside for us, but probably not inside.

Majestic View Steakhouse and Saloon

Switchback Grill

Other places of interest?
What are everyones ideas on where to stay?
I am letting anyone that wants to, stay on the floor at my house in Ivins/St. George on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The floor is not carpeted so bring air mattresses. Here is the link to where I am living right now. I got it to rent it out, so I am not sure how long I will live here, but I am gettign use to it, so I might stick around.

Some of you are always interested in camping in the great outdoors. Here is just a link, nothing exciting.
http://www.zion.national-park.com/camping.htm#camp
Let us know your favorite camping spots. Do you want a big group camping together? Is everyone welcome to camp where you are?
There are a variety of motels in St. George or Hurricane to choose from as well.

Agree on the scenery, but the entrance to French definitely had a nice scent, lol Let's not forget about the quicksand in many spots.Quote:

Put me down for a very strong maybe.
The only reason I don't feel confident to lead is because I don't have very much Zion experience. But as far as knots, navigating, belays, ropework, etc I am solid and can help out a leader. I would like to hit Kolob, Eye of the Needle, and Boundary, but I have never done those routes before, so I don't feel comfortable leading them.
Count me in to finally come to one of these! I don't have an hour or two to read all the posts so I'll just watch the first one and hope I get all the info I need from that. If you change it to August, I'm out. After June I'll be playing in the mountains. I can lead whatever, I'd like to do a Right Fork Trip, probably a one dayer, possibly an overnight. I'll lead Kolob if it's flowing at least 3 cfs. I've not done Oak or Boundry so I'd be down to do those. I'd be happy to lead Imlay (shortcut), Misery, Pine Creek, Keyhole, Echo, Das Boot/Subway (done all of them at least twice), as well. If anyone wants to do something the 25th I'd be down for that. I'd also possibly stay till the end of the month if I had partners.
Last year we had BogleyFest involve 2 days of Canyoneering (Saturday & Sunday) and I am hoping that this year we can be doing 3 full days of Canyoneering.
I have never done kolob, eye of the needle, or boundary, and would like to hit one (or all) of them. If anyone leads these I will be willing to carry a rope to come along.
Last year we did Boundary from the top and left fixed ropes at every rappel, had lunch at the bottom and ascended back out. Would be fun to have a group do this down boundary, other group comes down Kolob or Eye, meet at bottom of boundary and ascend out together. This is much better than the MIA exit. From the top of the canyon, down--lunch--ascend up, took 4 1/2 hours for our group of 6. 650 feet of ascending roughly. Would have to be a very experienced group.
I could lead a Fat Man's Misery trip...or Pine Creek (but I'd rather not do Pine Creek again).
I could/would co-lead a Subway trip on Saturday if I could get a permit and people were interested. As many times as I've been to Zion, I've still not done this one yet!
I suck at navigating, so I shouldn't be the sole navigator over terrain I'm unfamiliar with. I would most likely get everyone lost and Bo would have to come and find us.....
I've hiked up Lady Mountain a few times and won't get lost taking folks up there! I LOVE that hike and could lead that on Sunday if anyone wanted to do that instead of a canyon. I can be the rope gun on that too...as the climbs are not that difficult, just a bit of exposure is all.
~Randi
IMO, it would be much easier to fix ropes in the Chute (middle fork of Oak) and ascend out that one. You could fix the ropes and spend the next couple of days hitting eye, boundary, and north Oak wihout doing the MIA once. I don't have my notes in front of me but if I remember correctly coming out of the Chute only requires about 380' of ascension.Quote:

The Chute requires the same amount of discretion as the Eye if not more. A low key approach is definately required. I've always gone to great lengths to avoid any interaction with the residents. We suit/gear up high up on the road then drive down to a closer spot, quickly park and hike down the road to the canyons.Quote:

Shaggy is willing to lead any canyon but Heaps. Not willing to go into Heaps with total strangers. Major canyons in Zion I haven't done are Boundary, Birch, Behunin, Oak, Telephone, Goose, and Right Fork. Everything else I've done at least once, most of them more than once. I'll lead just about anything people want to do. I took advantage of one of these fest's as a Noob so now it's time for me to help other noobs out. So basically I'm saying I take requests.
you rock, eric :2thumbs:Quote:

Randi. Last year we did Fat man's and it was a scorcher. If you are doing the checkerboard rout I advise bringing atleast 3 liters of water, mabey more. I drank about 4 liters. I normally drink alot of water but it is a long exposed hike in but especially killer on the way back with the elevation gain. Super fun canyon though. The end of the canyon makes the whole thing worth it.
I also have the back country desks direct phone number if anyone needs it. Mabey I should post it in the members section?
Yeah, you're right! Well, no one has signed onto Fat Man's! That is a canyon I "could" lead because I know how to get there. I've never done the canyon in June - maybe it's way too hot this time of year? The hike is long and it's a very long slog out at the end of the day...Quote:

Thanks Tanya for providing all the organization! You're really good at managing this stuff!!! :2thumbs:
Tanya does rock!!!!
After asking around and doing some research and the following conclusion has been made. Please understand that this message is not against anybody but rather this is completely for the benefit of the most successful BogleyFest possible.
Important Message:
One thing we really need to keep in mind is that this event is planned as an opportunity to meet new and old friends and to enjoy some canyoneering together. BogleyFest really is as much of a chance to go Canyoneering as it is to meet other members of the site. When it comes down to it, BogleyFest is NOT a good time to do Imlay, Heaps, Right Fork or other pet projects or time consuming routes due to the deturance it would take of our necessary skilled canyoneers from the main group. Those type of events should be planned and executed in private at another time. Planning such events actually hurts Bogleyfest by stripping away talent that is useful and really needed elsewhere. To gain the most from a Bogleyfest we suggest you choose a route that can be executed in a reasonable amount of time by a moderately skilled group of canyoneers, and still have time for the evening social events. We strongly encourage experienced canyoneers to become a mentor to those less skilled at these events. Ideally we can be doing at least 2 canyons a day per group.
Hey guys, Add me back to the list please. I'm calling in sick. :2thumbs:  Seriously.
Awesome!!!!!!!Quote:

some new and repeat canyons I've wanted to do as long as conditions permit:
das boot (combo canyon too including out subway, or even upper left fork)
telphone/behunin combo
boundry
englstead out down orderville
birch (and maybe combine one of those other canyons the drop in orderville)
echo (upper middle or lower)
russlle gulch
icebox
boundry
Ya, I hear you and totally agree, especially with the deal at one of the fests where people were pulling all the expierenced guys together to do a Heaps trip. BUT, if there are enough intermediates that are just DYING to do Imlay but don't feel comfortable going with their normal group of buddies I'd be willing to lead an Imlay trip (although I'm guessing I won't actually end up leading one). Last time we did the shortcut we pulled our rope at the last rappel before 3:00. Like I say though, I'll do whatever there is a demand for, I've done Imlay twice and it's not a project that I "need" to do this year or anything. Oh and Randi, you've never done the Subway???? We should co-lead a Das Boot/Subway trip! I could do that one 100 times and never get tired of it, plus I can show you all the jumping spots, underwater arch, waterfall raps, and waterslides!Quote:

[quote="shaggy125"]I will be in Zion many times before this Bogley trip, and I am totally cool about hanging the group and doing shorter days/canyons. Like you said Discgo, it's as much about getting to know Bogley folks and hanging with them. It was really great getting to know a few people last time, and I was sort of bummed that I didn't get to canyon with "everyone!"Quote:

What day do you wanna do Subway Shaggy?
Lemme know and I'll pick try for an express permit.
How many people can we take through there? Sat. would work better for me, but either day works.
Alison?
You should come on this one!!!!
Whatever happens, I must do the subway on this trip!
John and I will attend. We are interested in doing Birch and Das Boot. Looking forward to seeing everyone!
