ON BIGTIME! ..........although, I did have to put in for vacation on the friday and saturday. Everyone I work with told me they didnt have any plans for that weekend SO I am going to assume that I am getting it off.
So. anyway, I'm still planning on being there. :2thumbs:

My local bikeclub wants to do a biketrip - to St. George the same weekend. I told them they could come to Moab with us :mrgreen: I havent heard back yet but its not even a debatable issue... I am going to Moab with y'all!
Not sure here. I'm already taking a lot of time off in May to drive my mom around the wild west :ne_nau:
I've tentatively scheduled a week. Get there Wednesday or Thursday and leave Tuesday or Wednesday. :2thumbs:
I will probably be driving a new used car too. :2thumbs: Complete with tent camping gear sufficient for two days at a time in a location without running water or much shade.
Just tell me where to occupy space if the bottom of Hunter Canyon isn't good enough. I figure we might still be able to reserve a group site in Sand Flats to save some potential hassle.

I will be brining both my kids. I wouldn't go camping with out them. Well maybe... but not this time.
Well, I'm still firming up plans for my trip down, but it's looking like I can still arrive sometime Friday, and leave either late Saturday or very very early Sunday. Keeping my eye on this thread... :2thumbs:

:cool2: My vacation was approved today - I am OFFICIALLY IN!! I am SO stoked! I've been pouring over campsites all over the Moab area and I keep coming back to the Sand Flats area, primarily because of it's proximity to town but at the same time having a remote potential.
The following is from one of the SandFlats websites:

Yes, Sand Flats does take reservations for 2 group sites- E-1 and the Radio Tower site. There is a maximum of 16 people in site E-1 and a maximum of 20 people at the Radio Tower site. The maximum number of vehicles for group campsite E-1 is 6 and for the Radio Tower 7. All vehicles and trailers must fit within assigned parking areas.
The reservation fee is $10. The camping fee is $50.00 per night for site E-1. The Radio Tower site fee is $60.00 per night. The $10 reservation fee and camping fees are non-refundable.
The trip leader must pay the reservation fee and first night
Cool! I say we do it! And get a group site reserved. I'm willing to cough it all up and give a cc# as long as you guys all bring me lots of beer. :lol8: I have the whole day off on Thursday so I am heading down asap. :2thumbs:

I think I know where the radio tower is also and if I remember correctly, it's not the BEST campground up there. I think the E1 is going to be more desirable. However, to accommodate a group, are we willing to sacrifice a bit? Or not? Just let me know before I reserve this as it's not refundable and will go on my credit card.
The map below is the best I could find. I am assuming the E is where E1 would be for a group camp and if I remember correctly, this is a more desirable camping area. Once again, I am still waiting to hear back. I talked to another person at the BLM phone # this morning and they said that I might have called too late (8:50am) but if I left a message they are good about getting back the next morning.
Where the E is will be more desirable. Where the 2 is will be pretty much a parking lot, but a pretty scenic parking lot. You are also within a hop skip and a jump of medevil chamber. :five:

I'd like to be at E-1. I think if we use it as basecamp then Radio Tower as secondary it will all work out - it's the next closest site to E-1 anyway. Just let me know if you need anything Alison - I'm your man :2thumbs: I will be there Thursday too - I actually have the week off & since it's a 6 hour drive for me I will try to get there as early as possible.

IN my usual noncommittal way I'll say that I'm likely to show up. :-) I'll put it on the calendar... will drive down Friday after work... if the van's running (haha), I'll sleep in it, just need a place to park.
UPDATE- Both group camp sites on Sand Flats are unavailable on those dates. The first available date for E1 is weekend of May 29,30, 31.
A. We just show up early on Thursday (I can) and grab a few individual campsites on Sand flats, knowing the individual sites COULD be taken (b/c it is Moab) and then we are screwed.
B. We change the date to end of May, but some of us have already cleared time off and I don't know how flexible some of us are? And Cirrus is going to be in town, so we wouldn't want to pass up a chance to meet Kev in person.
C. We check other group campsites in the Moab area via this website. After looking, most are filling up for that weekend so we need to act quick.

The above campground has availability for all of us. Their concept is a little different. There are no RV's. It's tent camping only and you park away from the tent area. You haul in your gear (which is only 100 feet). Other thing is, no campfires b/c they want to eliminate the carbon burn. BUT they do have propane grills that they supply for us to grill. It's a more GREEN camping experience. HAHA!! :nod:

I've stayed at Canyonlands RV (north of town a ways) and it was OK.
Problem with the private campgrounds is the cost, of course... Still, cheaper than a motel.
I'll prolly show up. Trying to talk beech into it. I haven't been following this closely, but I would prefer to camp out in the sticks where you can have a fire. :2thumbs:

Hey I'd be interested in coming but after reading through this post I am still unsure of the details. What do you guys have planned? If I came, I would probably bring my wife and son (him being only a year old) and I don't know if this is more of a hard core canyoneering trip or hikes, or what's up.
You know, I think so far it's just a Moab meet-up. I believe that details on activities will work out soon. It looks like there will be a number of kids coming, so there ought to be family-friendly activities. I'm not sure, yet, what I'd be into. A canyon, a hike? Don't know yet... If I'm there for Friday and Saturday - well, we'll see.Quote:

Found another group campsite that is available, Goldbar campsite D on Potash road. Called this morning, office is closed but will call again at 7:45 am when they open tomorrow. I think this will be a nice spot b/c it's near the Corona Arch hike which is a nice little jaunt with kiddos to a scenic arch. And it's right by the Colorado River which should be neat as well. It's available on Friday and Sat night which leaves some of us soloing on Thursday night. Will keep this post updated upon confirmation.

On a more fun note.........anyone up to making a BOGLEY FLAG that we can stake on our campsite? I think it'd be kinda fun to have one with a Pirate look but the Bogley logo guy. HAHA!!! I may research having one made!!! :2thumbs:

I will have at least one canopy for shade and an extra tent for storage/changing/etc. Also, I'm looking to get a better privy tent for my sunshower. I've already started inventoring my camp gear :lol8: :popcorn:
