But I think you're right -- he's so invested in saving face that he'd rather sacrifice his career than renege and admit he was wrong. It's OK -- his saving grace will be that it's all Trump's fault. I believe that this allegory should be required reading and discussion for every high school kid. Maybe spend a two weeks or so on this concept. Teaching kids how to think, reason, be tolerant of arguments and figure out how to formulate opinions. This would also take some extraordinary teachers to be able to teach this, too. This is one of the things I still remember from my philosophy days at BYU. The only problem with the allegory is that when taught, everyone thinks they are the enlightened ones and they quit thinking again. Very few people are willing to intellectually open their minds and consider all sides of an argument. And in today's world, where many receive all the truth they ever need in 140 characters or less, it will be even more difficult to drag people out of the cave and really enlighten them. It is a painful process that takes more effort than most people are willing to make.Quote:
