Well, they kept Mangum in as quarterback...even after burning that freshman's red shirt last week.
So with the high school portion of the schedule starting up, how long will this losing streak last?

The question is can they win 6 straight after losing 6 straight to make a bowl game?
I say, no, they won’t make a bowl game. This team is THAT bad.
Two powerhouses going to throw down later today.

(1-6) East Carolina puts the hurt on the Cougs. BYU only managed 17 points on the worst defense in the nation.
Total Yards ECU Opponents Gained This Year
James Madison--605
West Virginia--614
Virginia Tech--675
UConn--596
USF--575
Temple--523
UCF--603
BYU--421
Is there any debate on who is the worst team in the state? What about the nation?
Wow byu only got 421

And no possibility of a bowl game...
The biggest value of a bowl game to most programs is the 2 weeks of extra practice you get. Much of that time is spent with younger players that will be playing more in the following year. For that reason alone not going bowling is a huge negative.
BYU football seems be in a death spiral. They may never recover.

Why isn't Toluta'u playing? :smoking:
Fresno State is favored by 10. I wonder when the last time (if ever) they’ve been favored over BYU.
Tanner Mangum is out for the rest of the season.

I feel bad for Mangum. He can’t catch a break. BYU needs to rejoin the Mtn West. They used to contend for championships every year in that league. Now they are lucky to beat a bottom feeder. The program is in a death spiral.
The spiral continues... I think they need to fire Holmoe. He got them into this mess and I think it was all about ego. They were desperate to do something to match Utah’s invitation to the Pac-12. Independence was the dumbest decision in the history of BYU Athletics.

The comments section were rife with speculation that BYU would just get rid of the football program altogether - like what happened at BYU-Idaho and Hawaii. I honestly can't see that happening.
Two take aways for me:
- They gambled on independence and lost the farm.
- The honor code is stricter than a temple recommend. How does this make sense for college kids?
It doesn't. Which is why the program has been languishing lately, and will continue to languish for the foreseeable future.
Not saying it's necessarily bad. Just that it's a huge deterrent for kids wanting to get into a serious athletic program.
As a side note, Bronco over doubled his paycheck when he went to Virginia. As did all of the assistants he took with him. BYU has gotta step up and offer the going rate if they expect to have a program that can compete.
BYU just fired Ty Detmer
Detmer is not the problem...
....BYU is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
