I'm not hardcore. I already do not do refined sugars. It's the alcohol that gets me. I do not eat red meat or pork and I can't eat citrus. I live on salads.Quote:

Your sugar cravings will stop in a week or so. It's 100% possible, stay strong. :2thumbs:
OK RG.........it's the weekend. Gotta stay strong!!!!!
How was yesterday?
Day 7 One week anniversary. No sugar yet so far. I really miss chocolate, and have discovered the joys of sugar free Oreo cookies -- those things are awesome!!
Last Friday SUCKED! They had this big shindig for all the mothers at work, and had a whole bunch of cakes and extravagant pastries brought in. There was a whole bunch of leftovers that were turned loose, and everyone but me was pounding double-decker strawberry shortcake and three-tiered fudge brownie cakes. :eek2:
How's your no carbs thing going Felicia?
Well....another Monday down the drain. :2thumbs:
How is it going RG?
Friday was rough for me, but I survived. I think I'm through most of the headache. Weekend was ok. I'm pleased with self.
Have you passed the sugar cravings yet?

It's no wonder obesity is a big problem in our society. Almost everything is inundated with sugar. Sugar for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and then an extra dose of sugar for dessert, and sugar for snacks inbetween.
Americans are ADDICTED to sugar!! Disgusting!!
Yo Felicia ~ you still doin' your no carbs thang?
Mostly! Went to wine county for 5 days last weekend.....had a birthday and this is a holiday weekend! :haha:
I have stayed away from "processed carbs" and "processed sugar". Alcohol sugar does not count, but I still get the Headache if I over indulge.
For my birthday a co-worker bought me a Vente Frapachino from Starbucks with whip cream on top and I enjoyed every moment of the consumption process. Huge headache later......
Usually every Lent I give up caffeine, chocolate, alcohol and sugar. I did not do it this year.....and I feel "off my mark" right now. At the end of this week, I will be good!!! Thanks for the support! (I do this every year for medical reasons.....I passed this year with flying colours anyways!) :roflol:
You know, once you get rid of the sugar, it is really easy to get rid of the caffeine. Try it!!! You will feel better. :2thumbs:
Isn't it funny how they try to break you? "Oh, you deserve this cake" "Just have a piece of chocolate"Quote:

Keep it up man.
So.....Beech - what do you eat when you are riding? How do you fuel your energy needs and hydration requirements when not consuming carbs?

Other diets we know, will reduce the fat, and you'll see that any "light" or "fat free" product will have an increased amount of carbs.
for those thinking about carbs, fats, and stuff ... just keep in mind that your brain cells normally consume glucose for energy ... and these come from carbohydrates.
you want to maintain a sufficient level of glucose in your bloodstream so that your brain functions well, but not so high that insulin is secreted causing a sweeping removal of glucose from the bloodstream. complex carbohydrates are ideal on both fronts (unlike refined carbohydrates and sugars which tend to cause rapid spikes in glucose proportional to the amount consumed).

generally speaking i agree with you, but quantity is a major issue when it comes to sugars. case in point, fruit juice. there is a HUGE difference between eating an orange in a period of 5 minutes and drinking a large glass of fruit juice. in many ways it shares the same problems as drinking sugared sodas in the way your body responds to it.Quote:

That was interesting, but I still could not find any gauge for comparison on a normal healthy carb intake for the brain, say for a 150 lb man, 18 years of age?Quote:

Now the search is on for a carb to glucose ratio calcualtion.
EDIT: Found this one but it does not use weight just height & body type.

Thanks for the fix. You are correct in the above post which ties well into the theme of the original post processed sugar is bad- it is simple carbs that cause you to crash. I am amazed at the number of energy gels that contain simple sugar and are not made with maltodextrin which can give you lasting energy. Or they have both but mixing them is not good either (harder to digest and assimilate).Quote:

I have really enjoyed all the information that has been posted. I find that I have been feeling much better without the sugar, but for me no artificial sweeteners seem to be just as important, as well as caffeine.
I have begun tweaking my diet and I agree that it is very hard to think with no carbs! When I know that I'm going to have to think a lot, I have been adding natural complex carbs to my diet and I notice a big change. A spoonful of peanut butter has saved me several times lately. *lol*
The human body is so fascinating! :2thumbs:
So RG: How's it going for you?
It was going really well until yesterday, when I UNKNOWINGLY ate a big fat slice of chocolate truffle. ~~ A friend of mine said that she was gonna make me a yummy sugar free dessert, and brought it over yesterday. I dug into it quite heartily, and called later to thank her. It was then that she said she had made it with sugar, not Splenda like she had originally planned. :frustrated:Quote:
