Ya, leave the total noobs at home, but if you have a Laura Croft-esque girlfriend, then by all means bring her! Just be advised, the first time she bitches about a broken nail, we're throwing her over the edge of the first rappel...
She could be a good anchor! :2thumbs:
Since there are so many and we'll be splitting up, we need some experienced Swell leaders. I'm happy to lead one of the groups with my partner in crime...the rockgremlin. Anyone else want to take group 2? Speak now. I also have dibs on the Nelson brothers...and Dan if he's up for more political and religious debate with me :lol8:
FYI all, when Kyrell debates anything he turns into one big scary monster! :eek2:
BTW, Faye and John can only make the trip on Sunday, and they really want to hit the Squeeze, so is it cool if we lead through on Sunday?
Yeah, that's cool. Let's just start early as most everyone will be driving home that evening.Quote:

I'll stick with you and rock gremlin Kyrell, and to update, it seems the Lara Croft-esque chic wants to come if that is cool. She has done some canyons in Zion before.
hey gang,
groups getting bigger than i was hoping for, so count me out on this one.
have fun, be safe
you wiener! :roll:Quote:

Is it because I said I was going to bring a girl Marc? lol. After reading more on the canyons we are doing I don't think I will be bringing her along. Another time perhaps on an easier trip.
There! Happy now Marc? Now quit yer bitchin and come along! The "too many people" excuse isn't sitting well with me....how many people were on the Black Hole trip that you attended earlier this year....like 20 or so?
LOL... honestly it had nothing to do w/ Adam and his eagerness bring along the "ladies". it really doesnt matter to me who anyone invites
truth is my little guy wants to do a trip w/ me and this is just a bigger group than i was hoping for w/ him.

Marc, I understand.... soon as the little guy started telling mom about Adam's strippers.... eerr.... I mean lady friends you would have your leash shortened. :haha:
it's good to see SOMEONE around here truly understands me.Quote:

Any of you who watch the weather might know that the category 4(and strengthening) hurricane Dean is headed right for me. So if you don't hear from me, you should make SAR trip down to Cozumel instead.
I've never been in a hurricane before... who knows it might be fun! :) lol
adios muchachos!
My parents ( in their 80's) were in a Cat 4 in FL a few years back. They now live in Az.
I was there for one week and we cooked on camp stoves and use a generator to run fans and eat what wasn't ruined. We didn't see the Nat'l Guard until 5 days later. I patched more roofs in the neighborhood with blue tarps --all elderly folks homes---than I would ever want to. It was raining every day--Aug in FL with upper 90's temps and about 98% humidity, no power, phone or running water.
It wasn't any fun, I can tell you.
If you really are stuck there-- spare water, batteries and light, anything that can hold extra water, fill bathtub, charge up cell phone battery ( although cell towers went down in FL and no cell service for a while).
Food etc. Any treatment tablets for water. I am not kidding, it can be survival time for real if you have no services and everyone is freaking out.
Good luck and hope it just glances by.
I'm headed out for the desert this time tommorrow, I'll be around the swell starting thursdayish. I suppose i'll camp friday at hidden splendor but I've never been there before so if you see a black explorer driving around the desert looking for folks he's never met, wave me down. If anything changes somebody call me and let me know, 970-903-7045, I can maybe check messages wednesday in hanksville.

Hah. The fun part was sarcasm, I just laugh at everything, it is my personality. It seems I may just get out of here before it hits. I do love a challenge, though.
Hey guys, finally back from the Pacific Northwest, and trying to sort out this weekend. Looks like the list of attendees is getting big, so we will probably want two groups. My plans are shaping up as such:
Saturday: The Squeeze. I am planning on going with Chris, Porter (not on the list yet), myself, and whoever else wants to join, (John Varn?)
Sunday: Quandary Direct: Same groups?
Camp: Hidden Splendor. I'll be there LATE Friday night. Big party should be scheduled for Saturday night... Long drive home Sunday.
Should be most excellent.
So can we expect more shots of hot canyon babes and hopefully less of rockgremlin in his sh*t stained briefs?
Man I feel so loved. How much dirt road doI have to drive? I'm thinking of bringing my car instead of the truck. Where are we camping? What kind of camping? Those of us that are Swell noobs need to be walked through this thing. Looks like Dan will be in his own group, I don't blame him since he was so outwitted last time.Quote:

Oh Dan....I'll miss you brutha! How was your trip up north?
Muy Bueno. Lots of wet canyons and waterfalls, etc... Full six day TR coming up this week.Quote:

Now, onto pressing matters... Should we set up some potluck goodness for Saturday night? Possibly a case or two of rockstars?
Also, let's all camp at Hidden Splendor, and be sure to CROSS the airstrip. There is a nice group site that overlooks the muddy, down where the old access road used to drop down to the river, before the BLM gated it off. It is pretty easy to figure out.
Everyone okay navigating to the Splendor?
LOL. Dan these groups look great. This trip is gonna be epic. Team Dirty Jocks RULE!!
As for goodies...I already volunteered to bring along some homemade avocado salsa...just need someone else to bring along some chips. Also, I think Costco is still running their sale on Rockstar. If you snag me case of the white cans, and a case of the orange cans, I'll send you some $$$ via paypal. Let me know. Can't wait 4 this weekend!
Chris, you'll be on dirt roads for a good 45 minutes to an hour depending on their condition and how fast you want to drive. There are several ways to get there but exit 129 off of I-70 is the most straight forward approach. I seem to remember that the mileposts were changed recently and 129 is now 131? Can anyone clarify that?Quote:

Cody and I will leave around 4 vegas time so hopefully we'll arrive around 11-12 your time. I'll PM you for some better directions but we've decided to just bring my truck so we can fit more hookers.Quote:

How do these canyons compare to Zion? If I were to try to explain to my bro what to expect, which canyon in Zion would be a good example (hiking wise). I think Shane has the GPS points so we should be able to navigate to the airstrip. Getting excited.
Cody will be drunk by 8:00 saturday night. His 'lamp' is definately out of oil. I'll have to rely on Justins & Mike's prowness to protect my doctrinal virginity.Quote:

We're hitting Quandary and the Squeeze -- the Zion analogue to these canyons would probably be Imlay.
It is with great dismay that I will have to withdraw from this trip. One of my projects at work had some problems while I was out of town and I will be working through the weekend to get it back on track :frustrated:
Man, I'm so psyched, I have to pretend this isn't happening or I'll never sleep
Wanted to confirm my participation in team lamp shade, and also anyone got an idea how full these are as I've never been in squeeze and only peered over at quandary direct, I'd assume I'd need to bring at least my 3/2 shorty but should I bother with my 3/4 full? I'm skinny as hell but somehow do well in the cold.
ATTENTION PEOPLE WONDERING WTF HIDDEN SPLENDOR IS:
The exit (according to google earth) is indeed 131 now.
Full directions here:

Despite its name, I think its easier to find than it was to make a link from google earth clickable in here, you can even hit the reverse button if you're worried :haha:
I'll be geared up in a 2mm full, which should be PLENTY, especially since the temps lately have been in the mid-high 90's.
