A few years ago I went thru Mystery Canyon with some people and among them was Scott Card. We took a lunch break and that's when I found out he was a lawyer.
I made some kinda shitty comment like "All lawyers must die" or something like that...in a joking tone of voice, tongue in cheek kinda thing. Scott understood and wasn't offended, but he said something to me that I'll never forget...because it completely shifted the ground under my feet in regards to defense lawyers, in particular.
I paraphrase, but it was along the lines of "If we weren't here to defend you, who would?"...simple, but man it was a bullseye. I dawned on me that without them, people would be railroaded all over the place (take the Zimmerman case, for example)...just a couple sentences from Scott set me straight. Like a lightning bolt, really.
I don't know if I ever told you that, Scott...but it had a profound effect.
Thanks for that ^^^^^. That was one of my most fun days in a canyon with you and the others. Great memory. I forgot I said anything like that.
