Zion Bogleyfest - June 26-28 09' A Sucess! :)

In my limited time with my trip coming up on Friday I've read a bit on the Zion canyons. I think my clan, Ststephen (aka Paul), Robin and Aaron would probably be OK with Mystery and that sounds like a great slot. The rap over the boulder might be tricky but they are not first-time rappelers.

OTOH, we would also be fine doing any of the easy canyons like Orderville. We plan to be there for full days Sat and Sun. I know 3 people eats up a lot of spaces on a permit so I want to be flexible.

I have you for Mystery on Sunday. How about this trip on Saturday: These are awesome canyons for those that have not done them. Most of our group did them last year though.

Leader: Shaggy and Bo
Pine Creek and Keyhole on Sunday - 12 limit

Just skimmed the description: those sound like fun! My son and wife have wet suits that they use for swimming in the ocean. I guess I'll need to get one too.

Sure put us down for these on Sat and Mystery on Sun. That sounds like a good progression as well.

Oh, Spry on Sat with MrBrechia sounds like fun to. Sign me up for that, pretty please.

And +1 on Orderville being awesome. Be sure to bring a tube for the relaxing float down the narrows at the end. If I had to pick between Subway (non das boot) and Orderville I would pick Orderville personally. But with Das boot, it's a toss up.

*Thanks for this reminder to all. I am NOT a leader per say. I've done a lot of canyons, but I've never taken a class, I've never really "lead" anyone but my own children through a canyon. That said, I'll be happy to participate by way of going with "you" through a canyon, which I will gladly secure the permit for! And being a "mom", I'm gonna be concerned with everyone's safety/well being of course! :mrgreen:

Bringing up the issue of permits, I plan to get a Das Boot permit (on-line) tomorrow. Only 6 can go, including me. Which 5 of you out of this list wants to sign on to that trip?

Six others can do Subway only, and we can all meet up at the confluence to continue as a group of 12 (Bo will secure the Subway permit I think).

This is my understanding anyway.

Two things: did I miss out on the 6 for das boot? if so, i'll plan on just doing subway. also, wanted to find out if you are going to start a wait list? if so, i'd love to add on my friend kristen for both of the saturday and sunday canyons with me. thanks again!! :2thumbs:

I put Kirsten on as waiting, but you could just switch to trips that are not full. Tom should be starting a couple of new ones as well.

I was un successful in the lottery for Mystery on Saturday.
Should be able to get a walkin if someone is at the BC desk by 5:00AM Fri. Morning.
If by some strange reason that doesn't work, plan "B" would be to do Spry.
I got 3 Walk-in Mystery permits last year, key was being there early.

They are offering no on-line permits for Mystery during this Fest.

Maybe we can offer alternatives if we can't get permits, for canyons like Birch that do not need permits. I like Birch probably better than any of the canyons in/around Zion other than Kolob!

Seems like kolob/eye is on the full side. I would hate to be waiting to rappel for 20 minutes in that cold ass water lol. Anyways anyone doing anything else on friday? Seems to me that there is only one trip for friday?! im willing to wait for the walk-ins for mystery on friday and then what? Anyone want to do a canyon that day? Ill do anything!

Since Das Boot is full I'm thinking of knocking that canyon off my hit list sooner and let someone else take my spot, as long as there is enough leadership for that canyon, or have a Friday permit.

Some had wanted to do Englstead Orderville. Think that would be a good Friday canyon (though not noob friendly). Or Telephone/Behunin.

I'm game for what ever. Let me know which canyons and I'll try securing a permit.

Birch maybe a good Sunday canyon.

What permits did someone get? Anyone need me to get one.

If you get in line early on Friday and get our mystery permit, I do any canyon with you that you and Jody want. Let me know.

OK it looks like I'm in. Unless something gets planned for scouts.
It will be me, my wife(canyongirl), brother in law(chabidiah) and another brother in law who doesn't have a name on here. So 4 total.

We were hoping to do a Telephone/Behunin combo on Saturday. And we were hoping to join Kurt's group on Sunday with the Yankee Doodle/new canyon if possible.

Chabidiah is the most experienced in the group. I would classify myself as intermediate/noob. I feel confident in getting myself and my wife down and I can teach the basics but probably some rappelling experience is needed to come with us. We have not done either canyon before so if anyone has we would love to have you with us to speed things up. Seems like we always take the "scenic route" when trying to navigate new canyons.

I privated Jaxx, all people coming on trips with me should have prior rappelling experience. The canyons are never a place to learn.(first time rappelling)
