Last of the Great Unknown - Trailer
It's been a long 12 months working on this project, and it only took one brain surgery to get here, but this thing is nearly complete! I'm stoked to finally release the trailer for Last of the Great Unknown.
website is here - www.lastofthegreatunknown.com
The film documents the history of exploration on foot in Grand Canyon, from
Harvey Butchart, George and Allen Steck, and the work that Rich Rudow and Todd
Martin have done over the last 5 years exploring technical slot canyons.
Not sure the final release date or when the premiere will be, but it will happen
sometime in late April most likely.
Thanks to many people on this list who have helped in so many ways to make this
thing possible!

The Grand Canyon is an immense place, almost unfathomable in scale, and one of the last places in the American West to be explored. John Wesley Powell called it the "Great Unknown," having no idea what rapids, falls, or canyons awaited him on his first descent of the river in 1869. In the decades since, the Canyon has been a playground for dozens of explorers. River runners, backpackers, routefinders, lithic hunters, and peakbaggers have all laid claim to the Canyon's iconic landmarks, often seeking out the prestigious "firsts." While many significant points of interest were being explored, there was one feature that was left almost entirely ignored: the Canyon's innumerable technical slots.
Deep within this vast wilderness are secret and intimate tributaries rarely visited by man, hiding some of the Canyon's most remarkable features. The barrier to entry is steep. To explore them, one must have a knowledge of backpacking, packrafting, rappeling, anchor building, and off-trail navigation. The Last of the Great Unknown is the story of these slots, the canyoneers who systematically explored their drainages, and the secrets hidden deep within their walls.
The film will premiere the last week of April, 2012. Check the official website for updates!

Update: Last of the Great Unknown
Hi folks, first post on Bogley (but I'll admit to lurking here in this fine community on occasion). It doesn't appear that I can post links on the site right now, but I thought I would still make people aware of the news since Dan is out playing in the outdoors somewhere. If you're a member of the Canyons Yahoo Group you'll find the links there. I'll be happy to post them here when I can, or someone else can help me out by posting them.
We've had a lot of questions about where people can watch the film. Up until now you had to travel to one of the film festivals to view it. Outside Magazine will air the full film for free on the internet this Thursday night (July 26) between 6-9pm MST. It's in full HD with an original score so watch it on the big screen with quality sound if you can. It will not be archived or available for viewing outside of the three hour window.

Incidentally, the film has been getting high marks including one of the ten best documentaries at Telluride Mountain Film (by Outside). It was selected to travel to 130 cities around the World on the Mountain Film World tour. It's really quite remarkable on the big screen with incredible HD cinematography and Dolby 5.1 surround sound. If you like the internet showing I would encourage you to try to see it at one of the film dates here:

The film is being considered for many other festivals in the Fall including Banff. Stay tuned for more big screen dates. I'm also told that more local
Arizona festivals (Flagstaff, Prescott, Sedona) are considering it too. Finally, the film will air at Outdoor Retailer in Salt Lake Sat Aug 4 between 4
and 6pm. More here:
