5Mile to Eureka today
5Mile to Eureka today
I just rode 5Mile to Eureka. The area immediately south of 5Mile is nice and dry, but once you get in/around Eureka, it's a snow & mud covered mess. There's ~2feet of melting snow, atop deep mud all around Eureka. I tried to get back via the West side of the Tintic's, but got stopped dead by ~8" of deep snow and mud not too far past the cemetery. The only route I could take back was Homansville. Many of the main county roads have ruts from trucks driving atop when super wet. Not dangerous, but ATV tires get caught in those ruts and will pull you that direction. I'm guessing a few more weeks for the canyons around Eureka before the snow is gone. Total mileage for today (some back tracking after busting winch cord trying to get turned around in Broad Canyon) was about 80..
It took me ~2.5 hours of constant winching to get out of Broad Canyon.. I lost about 10' of synthetic winch cord due to the line snapping multiple times. I also broke my snow shovel, which is why I also carry a steel shovel along with an axe on the rear rack.
What a workout today!
Here's the run into Broad Canyon before getting massively high centered.
