North Wash?

Wanted to go to Zion but the road mess is ********. So have now decided on the North Wash unless some other idea comes along.

Up East Down West Blarney
Morroco
Slidenade
Arscenic


So you North Wash experts what do you suggest next? Or should we try some other area? I'll pass on Eardley, been there done that.:fitz::fitz: Not looking for any extremely skinny stuff. Went up Middle a long ways one time and would not want to come down it.

Boss Hog is nice, but still a little skinny. Comparable to Leprechaun

Maidenwaters are real nice, and probably have some water after the Monsoonal rains we have had.

Other favorites are Adobe Swale and Monkey Business.

September is still pretty hot for North Wash. Personally I would say go elsewhere until it cools off more.

White Canyon (i.e. Cheesebox, Short, Long, Gravel or Fry Canyons) or Capitol Reef (i.e. Burro, Cottonwood or Fivemile) is typically more pleasant. Some of the Swell stuff is pretty good this time of year. Music and The Chute make a pretty good combination this time of year.

I was concerned it might be a little hot. I have not done anything around capital reef and I am going with 3 teenage girls and 2 dads. They have all done some canyoneering but I try not to hit an area I have never been to without more skill along. My wife has a rule. You can take my kids anywhere you want just make sure you have already been. So I was planning on doing a couple of the N Wash ones I had done and maybe add another new one. But if Cap Reef etc is pretty straight forward I would go for it. What my wife doesn't know never hurt her. So if not the wash what canyons do you guys suggest? Also would have to round up wetsuits for all of them but my daughter and I if needed. But I could probably find some.

Burro, Cottonwood and Fivemile are fairly straight foreward. The White Canyon stuff is probably easier though. Cheesebox or Fry would be a pretty good one for realitive beginners. Parts of Gravel too.

PS, I don't know current road conditions in any of the above areas since I haven't been in recent months.

Didn't I read something about a Log Jam problem in the Black Hole? We could head over there. If we do that what other canyon other then black hole do you suggest? Cheese Box?

Mark....ever swam through Black Hole? That's "close" to North Wash and it's a very wet and fun day adventure.

Your teenage girls would probably like but might complain with it being cold, not to mention the recent report of all the logs in there (good challenge!)

Never done the Black Hole, have always wanted to. These girls are very active and could handle whatever was thrown at them might have to change the plans a little. Maybe North Wash one day Black hole one day. Thought I heard somewhere Ram and them are doing the Black hole Sunday? Might learn something from them about the logs.

There is something over on Yahoo about a new massive log problem.

I'm sure everyone in your group could do it...just the logsoup would make things interesting and potentially scary if everyone is all noobs.

You could try Monoxide (short, one rappel, good amount of downclimbing and obstacles). But do West fork. East fork is okay, but West fork has more bang per buck. Easy.

If you decide to go to Capitol Reef - Cottonwood Wash is a nice technical canyon. Everyone in your group should be able to handle that one nicely too.

Edit: I'll second what Scott said, Gravel and Fry are good beginner choices too.

IMHO, pretty hot for physical canyons (if dry with no swimming). Of course those who like the heat may disagree.

I'd suggest Arscenic and Slideanide as the next slots on your list. They are good canyons and will work in nicely with your current progression of canyons.
