Anyone know if the road to Delano peak is open or what the conditions are?
You can call the Fishlake NF, in Beaver.
On years with much less snow than this one, the pass is rarely opened by July 4th.
There are drifts in 2 particular places that melt out very slowly, they will not plow them.
My best guess would be August...
I would guess you should be able to get to Big John Flat and there are several routes to Delano from there. As for the road beyond poison creek, as was mentioned, it is highly doubtful that it is open.
I can hike to Delano from my house too, just easier to go from the gate by the towers..
But really, Matt is right, if you can follow the road(even if you have to walk it) to the closed poison creek gate, the hike from there isn't bad and you will more than likely see goats.
I checked the web site earlier this week and even the lower gate was closed, you couldn't even get to Big Johns.

Wow, thanks win for doing the leg work on this one!
Thanks guys, I really want to try to find the goats this year.
The two times I have hiked Delano we went up near poison creek drainage and both times saw the goats. http://www.bogley.com/forum/showthre...29-Delano-Peak
