Canaan Gap Rock Art
June 15, 2011
Thank you GEOCACHERS! Without them I would have a hard time finding cool sites like the Canaan Gap one! I had heard and seen pictures of this site but had a difficult time coming up with enough information to even attempt to find them but as mentioned geocachers for better or worse often are not afraid to hide caches near such sites. The Gnats (I call them Juniper, but heard they are called Cedar gnats, either way they are of the devil!) were horrible and stopping to take a picture quickly found me being swarmed, but it was worth it! This site was my favorite one I have found in Southwest Utah. I dont know if they were pecked/carved deeper into the sandstone, or if it was due to weathering but they petroglyphs are super deep and the dark varnish contrasts with the lighter sandstone making this an awesome place!

Looks like a cool site :)

Sweet! Geocaching does have its place. I've gotta admit- places like that are way better than the ones that are in someone's front yard, at a redbox, or put there just because someone could. Finding cool places is one of the reasons I look for geocaches. I found a few cool spots up by Soda Springs Idaho over the weekend because of geocaching.

That last picture reminds me of the big Panel at Nine Mile Canyon (I think it is called possession panel?).
