While up to the Idaho Regatta all the locals keep telling us to go see the falls.... it has been a long time since this much water was pouring over Shoshone Falls and it was spectacular... I'd been to the falls before but never seen them thundering like they are right now.

For those that don't know... Shoshone Falls is located just outside Twin Falls Idaho on the Snake River.

FYI: Sometimes called the "Niagara of the West," Shoshone Falls are 212 feet (64.7 m) high--36 feet (10.97 m) higher than Niagara Falls-- and flows over a rim 900 feet (274 m) wide.

And if you want to see some pictures from the boat races go here:

We also stopped at the bridge, hiked some of the trails, and visited the Upper Falls (Twin Falls). We spent about 1/2 a day in the area and I'm happy we did.

If you hit the bridge at the right time there are base jumpers.

There's a National Geographic HD show called, Eigor base jump, and the jumper-in-training jumped this bridge 11x before the infamous and "best" one called "Eigor" in Switzerland. He wears a HD camera and the shot from the bridge in Idaho is edge-of-your-seat entertainment from my 45" TV.

Also speaking of the bridge they say its the only manmade structure in the US where basejumping is legal, 365x/yr.

I'll go base jumping one of these days. I need a better helmetcam.

WOW. When I've seen those falls, the water has been a fraction of that...or was it even dry one time?

Thanks for sharing.

God damnit! I was on I-84 yesterday and I tried to convince the wife to pull over and look at the falls. We were running late and she refused. I was kind of figuring that they would be flowing high with all the rain we had recently… :frustrated:

I rafted and almost died in the Snake right above those falls, something to see for sure!
