I'm getting the itch to get on the water this season. I'm strictly a flatwater kayaker with a full-on touring boat. My favorite outdoors trip all last summer was a kayak camping trip at Flaming Gorge.

I'm looking for a place with good dispersed camping opportunities, enough interesting shoreline to explore, someplace where I can comfortably leave after work Friday and be home by Sunday night, and someplace that's not still too chilly. Decent fishing would be a plus, but is not essential. I'm intrigued by map images of Blackfoot Reservoir, Idaho, east of Pocatello and north of Soda Springs. Has anyone been? I see on this map that there are numerous islands within the control of the Ft. Hall Irrigation Project:

I'd like to camp on Willow Island. Does anyone know if that's permitted? (I was going to call the BLM office in Pocatello tomorrow.)

Does anyone have any better suggestions for places that fit my criteria?

Thanks in advance for any info!
