Ever heard about this road?

We didnīt know about itīs existence until 2006. At this time we red a note in a booklet sold at the John Wesley Powell Museum, Green River. Could be something promising, so we tried to find the road.

Basically the road goes from I 70 to the Coal Canyon system SSE from Ferron. It interconnects with the trail going from Eagle Canyon to Secret Mesa. We took a slightly different approach. Leaving I 70 on Exit 116 (Moore Road), turning to the south side of I 70 and Justensen Flat, going north again using a culvert to underpass the Interstate.

i 70 - Culvert north of Justensen Flat

Not too far from the culvert the road descends into Eagle Canyon, a bit rocky, but nothing serious. The northern flank of Eagle Canyon where a trail goes up to Secret Mesa - thats something completely different. In 2006 thi stretch was severe washed out and - in my opinion - dangerous for a SUV, only manageable for a experienced driver.

Descend into Eagle Canyon

On top of the damaged stretch one has to reach a T of trails at UTM 12S 0513045 4301775. Turn left (north) and you are on Eva Conover Road. At first itīs a pretty easy trail and can be driven without using 4 LO.

Northern end of Eva Conover Road

Slowly the road loose elevation. There are several points with views mainly to the east. Itīs quite different to Red Rock Country - it is Yellow Rock Country!

Road with a view

Lets stop talking - here are some pictures:

After 10 Miles or so the trail reaches a terrace above South Fork of Coal Canyon

Cliffs to the west. Beautiful, isnīt it?

Raptor Arch

Coal Canyon

Finally the road descends into South Fork of Coal Canyon. Going farther north leads to the graveled road through Horn Silver Gulch to Ferron and UT 10.

The whole story!

Nice! :2thumbs: I'm continually amazed at the places you take your Jeep. I'll be doing the Eva Conover road this weekend on an ATV, coming in from Ferron and going through Coal Wash. I tried getting down that road in spring 2006 from I-70 in my truck, but the top end (near the UDOT building) was too rough for me.
